Well Saxp-ers, today i undertook my most ambitious project yet

Removed my head to fit PH3 cams and a ported and polished head

Been pretty easy going so far, although having to remove the top engine mount to get the cam cover off was a pain in the arse
There have been a couple of times i've wished i hadnt started, but i'll soldier on lol

I'll keep you updated as i go
  2. #2
very nice......i bid u good luck
  3. #3
i hope the head gasket is still on the head when you put it on the floor....

    why's that?
  5. #5
well, the surface of the head want's to be flat/smooth as possible without and shit on it...

and putting it on a dirty floor may cause you problems...
  6. #6
ah right, you had me worried for a second there lol
i'm not bothered too much about the head i removed, i have a new head to go on which is safe and clean in a box in the spare room and wont come out untill its time to fit it
  7. #7
    well then good times

keep us updated with how it all goes, im looking to fit a ph3

  8. #8
UPDATE: oil filters are a B*****D to remove!! That is all.
  9. #9
Last update of the day, decided to paint the block in High Temp Aluminium to match my nicely painted head. Cant wait to have them together and my engine looking as good as it will (hopefully) go

  10. #10
    good luck looking good
  11. #11

Not sure mate, wasnt a 'known' company, i bought it off ebay as 'ported and polished' and got it checked out afterwards to be doubley sure.
  14. #14
    looking good
  15. #15
That high temp paint looks really good.

Hopefully it all works again once back together. You will have to let us know what sort of difference there is.
  16. #16
looking good, this is something i may venture into in the future
  17. #17
You say it was from ebay? How much was paid for it?
  18. #18
i paid £160 for the head
  19. #19
    you got it on yet?

jeeez, should be all done, gone for a drive and had your tea by now

from the same seller as this one?
  20. #20
    looking good mate.
  21. #21
    no different seller

I've not had much chance to do anything today, been running around all over the place lol I've put the inlet mani, sparrk plugs, coil pack and injectors onto the new head, thats about it lolmight put the head back on tonight seeing as its quite warm out
  22. #22
Well, this is todays progress, since my last post i fit the new head and cam belt, tomorrow i'll connect it all up and get the timing sorted

  23. #23
That's looking pretty sweet..Just out of interest, how hard is it to change the head and do the timing?..I wanna beable to change my head if it goes and cam belt without bending my valves lol
  24. #24
would take spark plugs back out imo, makes turning it over by hand alot easier.
  25. #25
Good progress there mate, you will have it back on the road in no time

Let me know how you get on with the PH3s unmapped, as I'm currently looking at the PT40 which is a tad milder iirc. But loads cheaper for a re-grind
  26. #26
Well todays been another pain in the arse day of running around not getting much done lol
But i'm nearly there, just need the timing done and i can finish up. Not booked the remap yet, so that'll be tomorrows job lol
  27. #27
nice one mate its looking amazing bet it makes a bit of difference!!!
  28. #28
UPDATE - I've hit a bit a brick wall now. No idea how to set my timing or tappets.
I know piston 1 and 4 are at TDC, but i dont know what to do with it from there.
    Can anyone help?
  29. #29
About to start the car for the first time, wish me luck!!!
  30. #30
Not running right at all, also the brakes have gone too, brake pedel is solid!! HELP!
  31. #31
Getting the car back from the garage today.
  32. #32
Got the car back from the garage today. Running sweet as a nut! A little lumpy, but thats to be expected from an unmapped PH3. Still, goes like sh!t of a shovel at high rev's
Looks better after i painted it all up too

  33. #33
looks nice, what was the problem with it ?
  34. #34
Looking good so far mate. Rebuilt my head in January due to cambelt snapping went fairly well after the rebuild came across few issues on the way but overcame lol keep at it mate
  35. #35
What you going to do mapping wise mate?

Apparently i'd done a pretty good job concidering i didnt lock the flywheel or anything i should have lol All that was wrong was i didnt set the tappets right, and i was a little retarded (as in not advanced like it should be lol) with the cam timing

I'm not sure yet, i think i might take it to Northampton Motorsport, i've been there before on a RR day so the new Bhp figure will give me a better idea of the inrcease compared to the last time i was there
  37. #37
what you think of the PH3 then mate?

worth all that fucking around and garage fee's?

    hows it feel to drive?
  38. #38
if you dont mind me asking how much has this whole experence cost u?
also where did u get ur cam from?
  39. #39
haha take it its all fixed up then, spotted u up by tesco area other day lol well done, hard job uv done there.
  40. #40
