F*****g torsion bar

Tried for 3 hours today to remove the torsion, and got no fucking where, and that was two of us,so is it safe to say the back end is totally fucked or what, and leave it alone. How the hell do you lot do so many of em,and i am normally very competent when it comes to cars,so weather i am missing summat i dont know.

you need a sledge hammer and a suitable sized solid drift to knock them out

ive found aslong as washers and bolts on either end of the bars are removed, they tend to come out quite easy . . . well easier than i always expect!

if its still bolted in at the other end though, you'll have no chance.

I have definatley removed the bolts mate,i know i can be a bit dim sometimes, but not that bad yet.I even tried my bosch drill with the kango action,in hope the vibration would break the corrosion down, more chance of platting piss.

Yep washers also removed. We were using a lump hammer, and the jack handle, which is all we had.Someone mentined a sledge hammer, but wouldent that have the car off the bloody axle stands.

Perfectly safe as long as you have some good quality axle stands and they are setup in the correct position on the jacking points.

Thanks for the offer willsy, but not saying that your incompetent or anything, but if we cant move it with a big sledge hammer, how would you go about getting the fucker out.

hammering the suspension arm to shake it loose worked well for me!
so does the slide hammer! but be careful, as if you us a shit bolt! and a crappy slide hammer you have the risk of ripping the threads!...
so they say anyway! ive enver had that problem though.

Is this not going to bugger your bearings in the long run? I was under the impression that as soon as you start messing about with the arms it disrupts the bearings.

    lol exactly Tonto

    I lower a hell of a lot of Saxo's and 106's.

Id be confident enough to say that if i couldnt get it out and complete the job properly then id pay you.

never personally removed torsion bars. but is it practical to get some heat into them to help free them up? i dont know if this is possible btw, just an idea.

You should never need to heat it up.

Plus if you were reckless with using heat ud risk damage to brake lines that are very close in certain places and the internal lubricant/grease on the bearings

Thats a fair comment bud.Going to try the sledge hammer anyway first, and if that dont work, the missus said it has to be put back to standard. She is already going ape shit at me,and cant afford to pay anyone anyway being on the rock and roll.
