identify noise please

i have a whine/squeeking sound on my vtr, started faintly a couple of days ago, sounded like it was coming from the passenger side strut/wheel area, now a couple of days and 100 miles later it is a loud noise that now seems to be coming from the middle/passenger side of front of car area.
it happens at under 50mph only, and it does not happen when i am on the throttle it only sounds when there it very little throttle or none at all, does not sound on motorways (60+mph)
it seems to be a very bad loud noise when first driving the car at normal speeds until i go on motorway where it stops, then after leaving motorway and reducing speed the sound is still there but not as loud as before using the motorway
any ideas?

wheel bearing mayb mate, does it wobble or pull when noise is happening, jack your car up and wriggle back and forth mate

i had the car up and checked most things suspension related, gave the wheel a good wobble and its sound, checked the top of the strut mounting and its all good, drives straight and fine just the noise.
im leaning towards it being something wrong with driveshaft/diff/gearbox?
think my gearbox isnt great anyway as it jumps out of reverse at over 10mph (gear links are fine)

Could be gearbox as it dosen't happen under load only on light or no throttle.

just had the car jacked up at front 2 wheels and had them going, passenger side wasnt turning even in 5th at 30mph, only turned when i put it in reverse, then put it in forward and it turned in all gears, looked under at driveshaft/gearbox point and it doesnt look to be turning freely
