hi all had loads of work done at a garage and my friend at the garage who does all the work on my car said to take it easy and run the timing belt in ? i didn't know you had to run it in ?

I usually just leave them idling for 5-10 mins to make sure the belt it ok then road test it and drive it normally, always give it a few miles before you start driving it hard. Thats what I have always done

yeah sounds fine, gates are the best imo, used as standard on loads of production cars by various car manufacturers.

    it will be reet.

just a side note...did you get the water pump done too?

well if he a mechanic maybe he should test before giving it back, then he will no it ok for you to take away!

i always double check cam belt and run the car around for a few miles and ilde for abit to make sure it all ok before taking back to customers!

Like the other guys said take it easy at first to be 100% all the tension has been taken up.alsoits good practice to change the waterpump as now a new belt is outing tension on an old beari but you proably be fine,
