Starting problem

    Got a 1.4 from 1998 with an intermittant starting problem. When i turn the ignition without cranking, the engine light comes on and blinks. If it blinks once it doesn't start, if it blinks twice it starts everytime. Any ideas what makes it blink the 2nd time? Cheers
