Making a mk2 front look like a mk1.

  1. #1
Does anyone know if it's possible, which i'm sure it is...

To change mk2 look in to the mk1?

So I presume, bonnet, wings, head lights, grill will need changing?

Has anyone done it or think it's much of a challenge? Is there anything else you need to change?

think you covered everything think just the bonnet lock itself aswell but should get that off doner car with everything else , seeing as cars are same should just be bolt off on job but mite need mk1 light loom to go in back of headlights as think they are different have sorta looked into myself as wanna change my mk1 to mk2

Why dont you two get together and swap all the body parts? Different colours?

did think of asking but think too far away lol

You may need to do a small amount of welding on each end of the slam panel also.

Haha yeah definately too far away and I need my car for work, it was just something I was thinking about for the future, would need another run a round whilst it was off the road.

It doesn't seem too difficult then...

but why would u want to make your car look older wouldnt it be easier sellin mk 2 and buy mk 1 and use profit for other mods not dissin your plan mate but wouldnt improve much for cash fo parts and any labour cheaper selling and buy mk1 if that what u prefer

I see your point jay, the benefit would be a newer chassis with lower mileage.

I would prefer a 106 GTI because they look meaner and more simpler. the mk1's look meaner at the front. I don't particularly like the front lights on the mk2. I only bought my mk2 for £600 and have since spent a lot of money on it not thinking i'd get in to the whole car thing, if I had known what I know now i'd have just bought a 106 GTI!

you might want to consider that to change from a mk1 to mk2 you need to do a slight bit of chopping as the mk1 is apparently a tiny bit longer.

same here mate payed top price for low mileage car add the mods and all that dough could av ad a decent subaru i wanted but no way was i paying 1600 pound to isure that rally monster hehe few more no claims me thinks insurance sucks the fat one

Same here jay, I've a VTR chassis that has a VTS engine with uprated, suspension, breathing mods, brakes etc, so paying VTR insurance which is the big bonus

Will get something a bit beefier in a few years ;-)

defo bonus dont get me wrong i like my saxos but getting to stage want a meatier car as insurance lowering.sayin that when i do missus learning to drive so by time she passes saxo shud bu fully modded and she would end up with it.

plus the good thing with these cars is they are cheap to fix when they go wrong with spares being readily avialable. you want to try maintaining a subaru or something similar, plus MPG goes down the pan, tax etc...
  18. #18
i know but think of the fun hehe but allways get parts cheap for the old saxo as my mate owns a citroen breakers hows that for bonus ben

good bonus anyway, i'm at work, best do some!

on my mk1 chassis i managed to put mk2 and mk1 front end on with no problems and that was after one side was abit bent from a small front end hit.
