Important! : hose to thermostat snapped?!!

  1. #1
    I've got 1998 Saxo 1.1i
While driving today the warning light came on for the rad, so I checked the levels and it was completely empty
I ran some water through the system and found the rear hose has totally come away from the thermostat or snapped.

Is this a common fault? And is there going to be hard to sort?

I obviously cant drive it until its sorted cause I don't want to mess the engine up, any help or advice would be great

the rear hose doesnt connect to the stat...

iirc the bit that is broken is plastic and costs about £10 from citroen.

easy to fit, just abit fiddley

the rear hose> Are thermostats not on the right hand side of the heads on 1.1s?

thermostats are in the same place/area in all saxo's i belive

    Thats what i thought.

Easy job then, jut get some plumber plyers n some WD40 and the clip slides off.

hey, thanks for ther help there
but my dad posted that for me and it's wrong
it's not the connection to the thermostat, but a pipe going into the back of the engine, i can't see it properly cause i'll have to get underneath the car but it looks like its pretty much snapped clean
looks like i'm going to have to get it to my local garage first thing in the morning to i can get underneath it :/

Yeh they can snap rather easily.

Good luck mate, id hate to have to do that job. Its so simple yet so awkward! Was easier to undo the engine mounts n pull the engine up abit tbh when i did it. I guess with some patience shove your hand in from the battery side, but you wont be able to see what your doing.

    Held on with 2 x 10mms IRC

god such a homo lol i had to replace my lower coolant hose on the side of a motorway with nothing more than a shite windy jack lol just have to shove your hand down the back of the engine with a pair of mole grips and feel your way around and luckily i had a screw driver so i took the air box off and i unplugged the maf sensor as that allows you to get your arm down there properly and if you move a few wires out the way you can see it pretty easy, ive had to replace my lower hose about 3 times so its second nature to me now lol
