#3Just use the standard one for your engine.
-
#4yes but where can i get a lower reading one ..from thats wot im after ....any body found one before ??????

#5Why do you want a lower rated thermostat?
You do know how the cooling system works and what a thermostat does don't you? -
#6lol
-
#7Just drill holes or remove your thermostat if you want a cold running engine for some unknown reason
your engine is fine, just leave it alone -
#8lol i was told if i change it my temperature needle would sit lower im trying to fine out info mate thats all .......let me in mate on wot it does then lol mines fine as i did a thread the other day

#9The thermostat stays closed to stop the coolant being cooled from a cold start.
So it stays shut until the engine is up to running temperature. So speeding up this process.
Then when it is warm enough. The thermostat opens and allows the coolant to the radiator. It starts to open at around 88/89 degrees and is fully open at 100. BY fitting a lower rated thermostat you are going to slow down warm up times because the coolant will be getting cooled sooner. -
#10And that's not good

#13Ford fiesta mk4 iirc

#15Probably changing the coolant has flushed through the pipes making it quicker to change, as long as your rad is in good condition, you have the correct mix of water to anti-freeze & no airlocks don't mess it about or soon there will be a thread " My engine runs ruff"

#16whilst I basicaly agree with you about running std car at lower temp ,a cooler stat will not make any difference to warm up time unless you run a really silly lowtemp one from something ,you can get stats from around 72c up to 90c --,but as suggested above an 82c stsat is what i would use on a very high powered boosted car.Quote:The thermostat stays closed to stop the coolant being cooled from a cold start.

your complaint about the gauge iis easily tested to check if it is just the gauge inaccuracy .
drive car normally till warm --stop car and let it idle --how long before cooling fan kicks in in normal conditions say 15-20c ambient it will be aorund 5-7mins maximum --then look at gauge when fan is on .
note where it is .now you have anindication of what is normal and what is not
If it takes 10+mins for fan to kick in then stat is too low or needs changing -
#17so for say 250 hp charged 82 deg will be ok
