Wouldnt you consider selling the clio and buying a 172? I know this is not the answer you are looking for but a 2003 clio has got to be worth in the £1500-£2000 bracket. You could get a ph1 172 for under 2k easily and even a ph2 for around the 2k mark witha few miles on it. would prob work out cheaper and easier than doing the conversion considering you would need to upgrade the breaks etc also.

yeah will her clio is worth around 2200 mark like but was wanting a project to do

so would the engine fit straight in ??? there some on ebay i found one in the local scrap yard 400 with gearbox like

IIRC they are not a straight fit, the engine mounts are completely different but not sure on the gearbox, as for the looms pretty sure you will need both the interior and engine looms from the 172/182 as the 1.2/1.4/1.6 looms dont match with the loom from the 172/182.

dont hold me to that though, best doing some research and joining cliosport mate

yeah i know the mounts are diffrent but they mount on the same place just use the 172 mounts

    Right;

The engine will fit, you will need a 172 engine and box with 172 mounts.

You will need an ancilleries, and full ecu, dash and keys, as well as DCU

the easier one would be a ph1 172 engine (2000-2001) as they run without ESP and have cable throttle which makes things a bit easier.

But in all honesty its a complete waste of time and money.

You can buy a decent 172 for £2500 now, and your Clio will be worth around that, and even doing all the work yourself it will still cost you a good £1500 in parts to convert it, bearing in mind you will need 172 subframe, drive shafts, wishbones ARB etc, as well as the rear axle as the track is wider.

Sell your 1.2 and buy a 172, alot easier and cheaper

would be cheaper to just sell and buy a 172.

Would need all the engine, gearbox, subframe, both wiring parts, ECU.

Get on cliosport, mite help you a little more then a Saxo forum

iv done a 172 conversion before mate, was on a 97 clio 1.2 though, i presume it'l be the same that needs changed though. let me know if you need a hand. wiring was simple enough, only prob i had was a fucked plug on fuel pump, which took me days to realise what it was.

dont see why you would need both wiring looms? i just used the engine loom on the conversion i did.
  11. #11
The engine itself isnt too complicated, the MK2 Wiring is different to a mk1, which is why you will need the ECU,DCU, dash clocks, keys etc for the engine to run.

Its everything else you need to buy to beef up the rest of the car, like the 172 subframe, driveshafts, hubs, struts, wishbones,ARB etc. Also rear axle as meantioned before.

Its do-able, just not cost effective when you can purchase a 172 so cheap nowadays anyway

if you get a ph1 172 engine you dont need the interior loom. as i said i fitted a 172 into a 1997 1.2 clio and used the original interior loom. just had to wire the fuel pump live directly to the fuel pump relay on the engine loom.

it'll better to buy a rear ended 172 then you'll have the subframe, suspension and steering rack etc.

you dont need the immobilisor or DCU or whatever its called. just get the ecu unlocked as you would with a saxo conversion.
