EGR Valve Question

seen a lot of saxo's without these and lad's just blocked them up with a pound coin or what ever. i was just wondering does it not effect anything because obv its used for something? and does it do no damage not having the EGR Valve fitted?

Its not an EGR value but a fresh air pump to help the initial running of the engine. Removing it only really helps tidy up the bay.

does it not give trouble in the long run? and does the wee hole even have to be covered up after its removed?

It's not an EGR valve - it's a fresh air pump. It pumps air straight into the exhaust ports on cold starts to warm the CAT up quicker, thus aiding emissions. Removing it doesn't have any advantage bar saving a bit of weight.

Although... I guess there'll be less load on the electrics as the car isn't powering the pump. I know mine runs like a bag of crap in the morning while the pump is running. The car also seems to hiccup for a split second when the pump cuts out. I'm gonna unplug the power to the pump on mine at some point - see if it runs a bit better from cold.

i took mine off, makes no difference whatsoever apart from the first 30 seconds or so when you start it up from cold

you will not do any damge to your car

I'd rather spend the pound on a redbull at least you'll get something for your money

I took mine off because the pipe and split and it was blowing,I havent taken the pump off tho and it makes a right racket when you start it up.

i removed mine and now im getting ECU warnings

my engine warning light is on and its saying something like secondary air intake sensor fault... but there is no sensor... (the code was found using the snap on OBD2 thingy) if anyone knows how to shut it up please let me know!!!

or where can i fit a resistor!!!

Shouldn't get any warning lights from removing the fresh air pump. I unplugged the power lead on mine and I've not had any bother at all.

If you've chopped the wiring or similar, you might have disrupted something else?

Just above the thermostat housing, near the airbox.
