Rocker Cover Painting

  1. #1
Hi, got a spare rocker cover sitting on a VTR which im wanting to refurb and spray

Ive been told about Kurust.. Rust remover.. could someone give me a link where to get it from and the correct stuff.. cheapest possible.

Also it says tighten headbolts to 5n torque? Guess im gonna have to buy a torque wrench yeah?

Also will i need heat resistant paint and heat resistant primer and laquer?

can get that rust Kurust.. Rust remover form halfords, (probs not the cheapest but you should be able to get it from a motor factors)

dont worry about the torque settings, its only a rocker cover and doesn't do anything other than cover. just tighten them so it doesn't leak oil.

as for paint, the cover wont get that hot, so just normal paint will do. my bro did it with normal body spray paint and it's lasted months

Ive seen the Kurust on ebay for like a 5er with free delivery, dont know if its the right one though, if theres rust prevention or remover.. or is it just the remover stuff that i need?

I will be getting a new rocker cover seal when i do it, ive been told to evenly tighten the bolts either side.. so few turns one side and few turns the other.. stops the seal fucking up?

when i did mine, i sanded it down to remove the rust, put on the kurust, waited 15mins for it to harden surfure, primer it with three coats, sanding between coats then painted it, i didnt use heat resistant paint and mine is fine, people say you need to use it but you dont, then you need to laquer when the paiunt dry, leave it for 24hrs to let paint harden then lquer, again dont need to be heat resistant, as for tightening, i didnt have a torque wrench that went to 5n so i just did it hand tight, then nipped it up with wrench, just a few turns, also while you have the cover off, you might aswell change the seal, there only £5 from euro car parts, also here link for some kurust, not to expensive, so just get it from halfords

yes mate, don't full tighten one side at a time.

not sure on price mate, but it's in a white tub with yellow and blue

yer forgot about that, do it evenly, also watch out for the spacers when you take cover off, they can fall into engine and it a right carry on getting them out, so pick the cover up level, also loosen the coil pack bolts off to get the cover off easily

My OMP upper strut brace But i was meant to pick it up on friday, but due to the traffic of the M5, the bloke went to pickit up early rather than later and my parts were still in the heaterdrying:/ so they are picking them up this week and ill collect them next weekend Bloody bank holidays, otherwise they would have been ready as they were shut for a few days so were behind on spraying etc.
