spluttering noise?

    hi my engine manegment like came on and i took it down to my local garege to get a diagnosise they said it was either my cat or lamba sensors, today i was driving home then suddenly my speed de creased and it was spluttering like i had no exaust so i thought my cat had blown and i stoped off at the shop on my way home i came out started my car and it s running fine??? its probebly my lamda sensor but i just want to conferm off you guys that it is before i go and buy. also im buying a 4-2-1 mani very soon so will i need 1 or 2 lambas? could any one give me a link to the part i need that would be very helpfull.

    Is it deffo the lambda? Sounds like may be a faulty coil pack to me if has rectified its self? The garage should be able to tell you if it is a lambda or cat really if you are paying them.
