Tracked my vts as ists- quick question

  1. #1
Right guys i tracked my vts for the first time at ists this weekend and loved it :-D I booked 2 sessions half hour apart but one ran pate so I was basically out for 35 mins none stop. When I came off the car was tapping ever so slightly oviously from hot oil and a bit of abuse. It stopped after a few mins and it's fine now, I just wondered if anyone uses a thicker spec oil for trackdays or if anyone uses a seperate oil cooler? I am doing more track work this year and want to look after me engine best as possible.

    Thanks!

i would get an oil cooler for your next track day.

also make sure all the levels are right,

What oil cooler? Are there certain kits for the saxo? All the levels were good oil was 3/4 up and coolant was full :-)

Also try doing your last lap as a cool down one!

Next track day fill the oil up full. It will be soo thin by the end of a 35mins session. I always like to use 5w40 in my engines

yer oil should be top up, if 3\4,

search ebay the are saxo vts mocal oil cooler kits on there.

cheers for the input. the last lap was used as a cool down- after 35 odd mins you got to wonder how long its going to take to cool lol. how well do these mocal coolers work? my oil was just below 3/4 on the gauge the whole time

i had oil problems on my vts. after around 20-30 mins the oil temp was nearing the top of the gauge so i had to do a few slow laps to cool it down.

Fitted a baffled sump (ran the bottom end at silverstone ) and a Mocal 13 row oil cooler with proper aeroquip braided hoses and fittings (£160 for two oil pipes :/ ).

If the car is a daily driver get a kit with a 'therostatic sandwich plate'. This works like the water tep thermostat, meaning the oil is only pumped round the cooler when it is hot. And, if the kit comes with galvanised barbed fittings ditch them for some decent crush JIC fittings. They're not cheap but I had one of the hoses pop off due to shit fittings.

Pissed 4 litres of oil onto the exhaust manifold. If it hadn't been heat wrapped and insulation painted the car would of burst into flames :/

and yes, the mocal kits are very good. Bloke called matt lewis on ebay (iirc) sells a kit for around £130.
