right iv got these wires by my alternator.. after i got my car back from a dodgey garage for a new engine in .. so iv pluged the red one in .. assuming the green wire is the live and the black one is the earth.. but whats the green plug for? been told it goes below the oil filter... but the haynes manual says thes one goes into the alternator but i cant find anything to plug into there?

    any help much apreciated

IIRC green goes next to oil filter onto the oil pressure switch. Thick wire will be 12v+ if you put a tester on it and this goes onto alternator output (can't go wrong if you have a quick look at the alternator connections) and the thin wire connects to the alternator agin, this wire turns OFF the battery light on the dash to signify alternator is working.

any ideas where the plug for my alternator would be or what it would look like? What does it control?

that thick 12v one is the alternator plug, but it looks to of snapped off.

Basically look at the alternator located towards left side of the engine, just left off the manifold below. Their will be a plug that goes into the alternator just above the plug you will see a nut, that 12v wire connects under that nut to create a circuit, undo the nut and attach a clip to secure it to the bolt then put the nut back on and screw it up, job done/

yer i know that but theres a plug on the alternator asthough something plugs into there. My mate said looks like could be to control my PAS or tacho... And my saxo aint running atm to confirm if my tacho or PAS works

Theres a plug on the alternator which is the alternator plug, you need some more pics of the alternator and to explain what you want in more detail for more help.
