    anyone?

Mate, could be anything really. First thing to try would be the fuel cutt off switch (look at back of engine bay passenger side for a red rubber button about size of 10p piece and press it firmly).

Listen for fuel pump priming up as you turn the key to position 2, you should hear it buzz for 2 seconds or so.

    Let us know

i have the same problem on the 106 gti

try fuel button as said, did you hit a bump before it stoped? or was it being drove hard?

ummwell ive had to ditch the car and go back to college
so when i get home ill take a look

but i been told too that the top end may have gone if not much oil in there
what sortta damage would be done from lack of oil?
no oil light came on tho :/

and no didnt hit bumper or driving hard at the time

Don't wait for the oil light to check the oil for you. 5 quid on a cam belt snap. Other than that, driving on an empty tank / unchecked oil combination won't get you far.

i loked at the belts and the ones i looked at aint snapped,
wha could be damaged if oil had gone?
could it just be a gasket?

Running a car with very little engine oil is obviously going to fuck your engine, how was the thermostat looking before this happened? In the red no?
  11. #11
no wasnt in red was about on the half way line
  12. #12
Its fucked is a legitimate diagnosis.
  13. #13
    ahh ffs :/
    would a mk2 engine Y reg 2001 fit in a mk1?
  14. #14
It says you have got a MK2 in your side bit? Have you checked for a spark? When you turn it over does it sound like normal? ie lumpy, and not flat like there is no compression.

Do you know what a cam belt is, and you were not looking at the alternator belt?

    etc
  15. #15
yeah i had a mk2 some guy hit me and wrote it off, but now i have a mk1 but still have the mk2

umm i havent checked the sparks and im not sure about compression didnt really listen for it

umm if theres only 2 belts on the engine then ive checked alternator belt, and the one above it which is the timing belt
