cam covers

is it hard to remove the cam covers on a vts and replace the seal for them as mine is pretty fucked now and the oil has started coming out the front rocker cover (closest to you as you stand in front of the car) and going down the engine and gear box, majority of it ends up on the floor but now some of it is driping onto the bottom of the manifold and smokes a bit as i noticed as i went down the dual carrigeway and there was a bit of a trail of smoke behind me. i need to get this sorted asap as i dont want my vts to go bang and i dont want to be with out a car!!!

    1. best place to buy seals or a sealent i can use

    2. whats it likley to cost me?

    3. how had is it?

    4. what will it cost if i get a garage to do it?

    thanks in advance

seals cant be replaced on the J4 covers, you need to use sealant or the like on the covers now, even then they can still be an arse.

Only other option is to get another set second hand with non fooked seals

lovely. to take the cam cover off do i just undo the bolts anfd gently remove? is there anything that will pop out or need to go back in a certain place? are the bolts torqued up when refitting? probably stupid questions but id rather be safe than sorry?

yes, torque them up - haynes gives values

yes, gently remove it, clean it all up before refitting

undo coilpack cover bolts, undo the cover bolts for the cam cover you want to remove then it comes off easy as its not been sealed on. If they have been sealed on with selaent before then its not as easy and requires more cleaning etc..

if you cant be arsed with sealant Ive got a set of covers for £25 delivered
