engine diagnostic light on

It just came on this afternoon for no reason. The car is not overheating, low on power, smoking or anything like that. Any ideas what it could be?

The cat hasnt been touched and it cant be missfiring - its very obvious if something is miss firing.

How much does citroen charge to plug my car in their diagnostic machine? If its too expensive i might leave it as it might not be anything serious or worth fixing.

I took mine to an independant citroen specialist and he charged me £25, fault read up as the CAT, he knocked the light off and told me to come back if the management light came on again just to double check the fault, it did 3 days later and he re-checked it for free.

I'd imagine most garages will charge roughly the same £20-£30.

thanks speed, yea - i think mine might be a dead catalytic converter or a faulty lamda sensor as my car isnt down on power, smoking, burning oil or smoking. its runs and idles really smooth.

The garage wanted £250 for a new CAT and labour, I went to my local car shop, guy that works there has a mint mk1 saxo vtr, he advised me to get a fuelparts CAT, came with a 2year guarantee and cost me £95. fitted it myself in 40mins saved myself a bit of cash for other things I'd rather be spending my money on!! lol

It sounds like its more than likely to be CAT or lambda, but try and get it checked soon as to be sure. Better to be safe than sorry! (god! I sound like my mum)

If its anything like my omega i had to relocate two of the lambas further back down towards the rear of the car,as normally the pre cat lambas begin to fail, sending the management light on,but still runs ok,just annoying.

get an obdII reader off ebay, there only £20 and will tell you the fault. I have one and there great for the ££, shame yur miles away or you could have borrowed mine. If no drop in performance though id say it would be faulty lambda.

Wouldent be a faulty lamba,as said the precat begins to fail with age,and as the lambas are sensitive(well on vx anyway) it picks up on this,so it turns the eml on,so to compensate for this just move the lamba back.

Even though your lights gone out ring around some local garages and get some prices to put it on a diagnostic, its not a great amount of money. My local does it for £26

I'll second that, I would still have it checked out mate to be on the safe side.
