106 twin fan, how to set it up

  1. #1
ok got a fan off a 106 has four wires 2 green 2 red going into a little plug, how do i wore it into the saxo wiring or the connector

or what the hell do i do with it? step by step would be spot on or just a simple diagram of what to wire where.

its a mk2 vtr by the way
  2. #2
can u not join the wires from ur fan so then when one kicks in the other will aswell?
  3. #3
cos then i'd have 3 fans. the vtr is a single fan no extra cowling.
  4. #4
oh i thought i ment u had one and wanted to join the other one on the other side like on a vts
  5. #5
no thats why i said i had a 106 fan.

bump come on loads of you have these so how did u wire them sort them to work

I have a twin fan set-up on my VTS, all i did for the 2nd fan was, wire it to a seperate switch with a relay to my centre console and then i could switch it on when stuck in traffic
  15. #15
but this is a 106 twin fan already set up and has a diff connector to mine. just need to know how to wire it in
  16. #16
come on seen a few people with 106 fans on saxos how did u wire it up to work?

Surely you just disconnect your old fan, take it out the car, put the new fans in and then connect the two wires to the existing wires already their for your old fan, but then all this does is replace your current fan with two so they will both come on together when the car is to warm, so its pointless.

For twin fans you really need one for the engine to come on and off and one for the driver to switch on inside the car.

So you have to look inside the fan cowling and dissconnect the 1st or second fan from the circuit then wire it inside the car with a switch and relay.

I'm pretty sure all you would need to do is source the wire from just one of the fans not both then snip it and connect a switch so when the switch is pressed it comes on which creates the full circuit, but then this would only work the other fan is on. For it to work properly it needs to be wired up to a 12v thats constant which can then be switched on and off i.e in the fuse box, and the second fan to be wired up to the current fan wires.

Sorry if thats hard to understand i was explaining it in my head as i was going along, im sure its pretty simple but im sure that the fan cowling needs to be separated for you to create a second circuit to the second fan.

    Just re-read your description,

Right obviously theres 4 wires 2 wires to each fan being a positive and negative.

Firstly work out which one is positive and negative, then work out on your current fan in the car which wire is positive and negative, then wire up each wire to the positive and negative on the car fan wires.

Then take the second set of wires as you already know the positive and negative wire the negative cable to a grounding point on the car, then run a positive cable to the fan and to the positive terminal inthe fuse box and to a switch inside the car. The switch will break the circuit/current flowing, so this needs to be wired correctly.

Think ive kind of explained it...

ok actually get that now, apart from........
the block that the original fan goes to has 3 wires and two blanked off. so 5 in total.do i just ignore whats already there and splice new wires into this?

this is part i'm confused at
  23. #23
Yeah you just want 4 wires, sounds like the block may have a switch inside itso causing another wire.

If you could get pictures up that would be easy to help.

Just literally find out, negative and positive to each fan.

So run a cable from the battery negative and positive when one starts spinning mark them off as the negative and positive for fan 1 then do the same for the other wires untill you have worked out what wires what, then you can go from their...

here u go drivin gme nuts on hoe to wire it as don;t really wanna cut original wires incase i mess up.

  26. #26
Dude is this already on your car, i need more pics of that...
  27. #27
remember you might have to take the fan cowling apart to separate the wires to have each fan come on individually
  28. #28
the pic is of the single fan wiring thats what comes off it.
  29. #29
is this a pic from the wiring on your car?
  30. #30
Dude just go get feck loads of pictures...
  31. #31
thats it. thats the block it needs to connect too. as u can see it has 3 wires and 3 blanked off. some how the 106 fans goes to that

Ok i think ones negative ones positive and ones a switched live wire, but then their would be two,

Anyways like i said before you just have to find out which is positive and negative on these wires, then im sure the car would switch the fan on itself.

Let me look around for some guides for you i shall pm noddy hes good at all this jazz.

The guide explaina the wires, and what does what, i've let Noddy know about this thread he should hopefully clear it up.

I've taken note from Baker about this. The green is certainly and earth but the other two would indicate to me that you have a twin speed fan on the car currently. I'll have a look more into this for you when i'm back from work tomorrow as i'm very tired atm.

Alternatively you can pop round to me and i'll look into it further for you (and even fit if possible)
  37. #37
If you can look down on the cables themselves and there should be an identification number printed on each one. (Ie 2567) There should be one on each wire. These numbers will tell me exactly what each one is.
  38. #38
Right, after reading the wiring diagrams i've got here, that looks to be the pre-relay connection. That will run to the relay on the fan unit and then a line will run from there to the fan motor itself. I'm going to cross reference this with my setup tomorrow as one of my manuals is in french.
  39. #39
yep, exactly as i thought, that is the pre-relay connection. If you look on the fan unit itself, there is a black box on the top right, undo the screw and the relay is behind there, thats where you'd want to tap into the power.
