Scrappy...

This may sound a stupid and odd question, but 1) ive never been to a scrappy so i wouldnt know.
Basically, (im not atm) but say i wanted, for example, lexus lights, or angel headlights, or a new engine, or air filters, or strut bars, etc, would i be able to find some there obviously second hand?
I mean, what i dont understand is, if some of those are around £200 new, why doesnt the owner take off that product and sell it himself, therefore gaining more money than just selling the car as a whole to the scrappy?

Scrappies are different to salvage yards. There are some things to know about them:

Scrap yards have beat up heaps of metal are unwanted vehicles which have been sold as 'scrap.' A combination of materials destined for recycling probably.

Salvage yards however are different. They purchase writeoff or damaged cars dirt cheap on specialist auctions and then people can pay to take parts off cars in the yard. Then eventually the shell will be sold on as scrap.

If you want an engine you go to a salvage yard and remove the engine and pay probably £150. Sounds cheap right? The guy probably bought the whole car for £200, so he doesnt care, you have no idea what conditioon the engine is in and he will make over £1000 per car anyway most likelyy.

    Hope this helps

So would you personally go to a salvage yard to buy something like an engine or air filters or springs etc?

Definatly, they are more common too. You will have more luck finding good parts in a scrappie. Just the other day i seen a set of VTR alloys, a strut brace, and induction kit, full body kits and loads of parts of interest.

I've just bought some saxo vtr wheels from a scrappy - £70 for 5 good condition wheels. I live in the middle of worcestershire miles from anywhere and there are 3 saxo vtr's, a 182, a williams and some other performance french cars there. Basically I'm saying it's always worth a look as the last time I went there it was just ford escorts and ,micras ect lol

Dont beat around the bush lol, just go have a look and see whats there. You may go there and they have 15 saxos with modified parts then go 2 days later and the chances are they will be gone, they sit then for around 2 weeks to see if anyone wants anything then if theres still good stuff left they either take it off themselfs and put it on a shelf or just leave it on the car to go to the crushers yard...................... theres always something different in the yard each day.
