Mocal Oil Cooler

  1. #1
I've searched some threads and found that the best bet for an oil cooler is a thermostatic sandwich plate so it only cools the oil when it reaches a certain temperature

Is the standard mocal kit one a thermostatic or is it just permanently open?

Sorry if thats a stupid question

iirc the standard kit does not have the thermostatic it is an optional extra when purchased..

The thermostat sandwich plates cost around £20 extra by the look of things...

okay sorry to highjack, i know obv the oil cooler cools the oil thus lowering engine temp but does it physically increase power or torque or does it just run smoother ??

I believe that by keeping oil cooler it helps maintain oil pressure. Hot oil doesn't flow so well.
It's mainly for cammed and turbo'd engines with raised rev limiters.

Ahh i seee... so basicly unless cammed or turbo'd there's no point in a standard car / saxo ??

    Yeh.
It's mainly for track use anyway.
I saw a guy with i think it was a 106 turbo that covered the oil cooler with a carbon plate when driving on the road. Overcools the oil or something..

How much mate? Does yours have a thermostatic plate?

Oh and thanks for the answers

we do not supply a kit without the the thermostatic --unless specifically asked to £120+vat

for that very reason --normal diving + cruising would over cool oil

does that mean a thermostatic sandwich plate only lets the oil get to the filter once it reaches a certain temperature too? or only lets it go through the cooler when the temperature has been reached

It goes to the filter all the time and only opens to the cooler when it reaches 80 degrees if I recall.

do these fit on the mk2 vtr with the oil filter being at the front of the engine?
