The gearbox in my vtr was replaced by one from a 1.4, will this effect the performance much at all does anyone know?
VTR gear box and 1.4

#2Not much at all mate. The 1st and 2nd gear ratios are very slightly shorter. Final drive is the same though. The 1.4 furio gearbox has a much weaker diff though so take it easy in 1st gear especially.
-
#3weaker diff? it was the diff what went on my old gearbox any way :/ i can tell the difference in 1st n 2nd gear to the vtr gearbox but i didnt know if there was any difference in the other gears
-
#4The diff is included in the gearbox itself mate. I did in three 1.4 diffs. When i picked up the one i have on the car now from the scrappy, the bloke said the reason your doing them all in is due to the shit you're giving it in 1st. Just don't do two many wheel spins or you'll end up with more smoke than you bargained for lol. Yeah 1st and 2nd you'll notice a slight difference 3rd 4th & 5th are exactly the same.

#5do a search on gear ratios on here mate if you're interested, someone has done a complete thread on all the different ratios of each gearbox on each different model of saxo and different tyre sizes etc.
-
#6ayye i know its in the gear box i'm doing mechanics at college lol god i'm going to have to take it even more easier now in first, yeah i'll have a look for the ratios on here cheers mate

#7It wont alter your performace atall, will just limit at different speeds.
-
#8CoolC if the ratios are different it is obviously going to alter your acceleration / top end. Between these two boxes there isn't much difference though i know.
-
#9Yeah i know, but it wont alter performance which is what he asked. It will limit at diffents speeds, like i said.Quote:CoolC if the ratios are different it is obviously going to alter your acceleration / top end. Between these two boxes there isn't much difference though i know.
But yeah as you say there isnt much difference between the two
