mask the surrounding area's off rub the trims with wet and dry wipe then clean then thin coats of primer sanding between each coat

Best to take them off imo, then just sand them, primer/paint/laq

i would deffo take them off unless you are really good at masking ... (its not as easy as it looks) only just got it right and have been studying car body refinishing for about a year now ... they are so easy to take off it would be stupid not to tbh

If i remember correctly .. on a vtr they are just held on with trim clips .. take your time and open the door pull the bump strip from the back of the car to the front of the car .. on the way it is almost garenteed that you will brake a clip or two but the are like a 2 quid from halfords. Please wait for another member to confirm that thst is the correct way to remove them. i dont see why they will be different to a 1.1 .. apart from being bigger and going to the bottom of the door maybe :/

Use plastic primer to prepare the surfaace. Also use metholated spirits to clean the surface before painting. Then be shure to use lots of lacqure to get them nice and shiny. Also if your painting outside you will end up with lots of 'debris' stuck to your paint so id advise finding a big enough garage to do it.
