Oh ####! Dashboard

Ok, im not usually the kind to make foolish mistakes. But i my have discovered a grave error in my saxo project. The cage is all welded in and is NOT moving. However.. this is the good bit.... the dash is [I]not[I] in place. Is it still possible to get the dash in position with the cage in place???

    incase he rolls it.

you may need to do a wee bit of measuring and cut small sections out of the dash to avoid the bars. either that or make a custom one or leave it out to save that extra weight.

becuase am guessing he will use it for track and road use

i think you should be able to get the dash back it maybe very tight but looks like it will go in my need someone to help hold the dash up towards the roof and drop it in from the top

Is it wrong of me to laugh? =\
  7. #7
you could get the window screen taken out bit more room to put the dash in?
  8. #8
Trust me, it won't go unless you cut some of the edges away
  9. #9
Yeah it's fine to laugh lol. And i was thinking it'll probably go with some cutting. If not then it should slide in with the windscreen removed

It should go with some cutting hopefully. And it must be possible as shell rally saxo's that are built from scratch have the cage welded in to start with without the dash. I will find some way around it.

Ok i haven't moved the steering column out of the way yet, but it isn't looking too good. I can cut to make it go, but where i need to cut are where the two metal support brackets are???????? The only option i can think of is cut it, make some new brackets, fit it, then plastic weld the gaps. Unless anybody has any serious suggestions??

mate i feel for you, i really do. Such a bad feeling when things like this happen.

i would personally cut it into sections and plastic weld the gaps like you said. It might not look pretty but face it, track car's arent meant to be!!

Can always sand down the welds to neaten them up

it doesnt cut that far into the dash does it?
  14. #14
Your biggest obstacle even if you get the screen out is going to be the steering column. The 2 supports can be removed, then re rivetted back into place though

ooops! fit a home made dash tbh!

Thanks mate, the first real hiccup of the project.

And yeah the steering column is easy, just 3 bolts and uv joint. The bracket is the real problem. It is flush with the edge of the dash. I think i will cut nust to the left of the glovebox, then weld the two parts back together once in place. This means i can still use the oem bracket.
I will get pics up in a second

    This is the bracket

And this is the plan. I have measured the resulting section and it will fit between the cage.

Who needs a dash? Rev counter and petrol is all you need
  19. #19
    Gauges are pricey though

Another option would be to finish the edges and then make brackets to rivet the section together. This will allow me to remove the dash without having to cut through the welds again if i need to

It does look good, but mounting all the heater stuff and that would be a lot of hassle
