O.k recently i have been having trouble with my car overheating, friday i did a full service on car including draining all the original coolant and replacing with new stuff. Well i thought this would solve the problem but NOOOOOO, still the temp gauge runs its way all the way 2red, this is even if a drive sensibly
Does any1 have any other suggestions or had the similar problem ... Please HEELP !!!!!!!!
Overheating confusion :S

#2Does your fan kick in? Thermostat working?
Any signs of hg? -
#3Did you bleed the cooling system?
-
#4headgasket?
-
#5first thing i would think of is headgasket, check for mayo under your oil cap and for sludge in your coolant.
if none of the above then id check your thermostat -
#6cheack see how hot your engine, coolant pipes get. if not boilin over then might be a dodgey sensor. mine was up near red after buyin it new thermostat sorted it. sits above half most of time.stays there tho kept risin to red before.
-
#7and my cousins escort was readin up in the red this week. we took thermostat along with sensors off his old one fitted it. read normal after that. could be blockage somewhere in radiator.or one of these thermostat, sensors, water coolant pump,
-
#8gf owned 2 saxos and both times it over heated headgasket was going..
-
#9The above advice is all good, it'll either be head gasket, thermostat, air in your coolant system or a faulty sensor. Saxos always run quite hot but the gauge shouldn't go anywhere near the red.

#12has your water gone down your rad abit? i have this problem and its a tiny pin prick hole somewhere in a pipe so it get air in slowly, heater dont work as it not going round the matrix and the over heating lamp comes on so i carry on driving and it just goes down again.

#13Mines been overheating recently.
Headgaskets don't usually just go without a reason. If youre on 60,000-80,000 you may want to get it checked. Easy way to tell, is there white sludge on the oil filler cap? If not it probably isnt that.
Run the car for a bit and see if the fan kicks in (as suggested above). If it dosnt, check your fuses under the bonnet. the fan is two 30's next to each other. but replace any if broken.
If not, may be either the fan (ive got a spare if you want one?) or the coolant temperature sensor.
Try to find a scrappy with those.
But first, take off the three bleed screws (right hand of radiator, then theres one to the right of the rocker cover - this is the temp sensor one, you'll need an allen key, then there's one at the drivers side right at the back on a bend in a pipe, looks like a tyre valve cap). Once they're all off, fill with water completely, replacing each bleed cap when water starts pouring out. DO NOT REPLACE THE WATER FILLER TANK.
When you've done that and you're sure its full, start the engine, idle at 2,000 for a bit to speed things up, then when its at 1\2 temp, pull forward a car length. when its over 2/3 temp, get out and lookunder the bonnet. If there is water anywhere other than underneath the filler tank then you've found the problem.
If not, try replacing the sensors. Most likely to be the thermostat. You can pick them up in halfords for £7ish.
Dont bother getting the head gasket done until youve looked for all other possibilities. And don't run the car like this! You'll DEFINITELY do the head gasket if you do.
If after all that it is the head gasket, you're looking at a good £300-£500. VTS conversion time?

#14Haha this is awesome info dude.... wel it looks 2me that if this dont work then i shall be tryin out a new thermostat, my car has only done 56,000 as of today so getting kinda close, but yeah completly agree at worst case if its headgasket a lovely new vts engine shall be popping in in its placeQuote:Mines been overheating recently.

#15yeah its not a constant overheating, just has random moments while driving whe its goes right 2 the top then gradually comes back 2 normal driving temp... its crazy but i do have a few options now and the thermostat thing sounds like a good call, if it was the thermostat that was dodgy though it would'nt cause the fan2 kick in right ????Quote:has your water gone down your rad abit? i have this problem and its a tiny pin prick hole somewhere in a pipe so it get air in slowly, heater dont work as it not going round the matrix and the over heating lamp comes on so i carry on driving and it just goes down again.

#16If it was on the blink it might work sometimes and not at others. If the fan didnt work at all it would be the coolant temp sensor. But most probably the thermostat (if they didnt go all the time halfords wouldn't stock themQuote:yeah its not a constant overheating, just has random moments while driving whe its goes right 2 the top then gradually comes back 2 normal driving temp... its crazy but i do have a few options now and the thermostat thing sounds like a good call, if it was the thermostat that was dodgy though it would'nt cause the fan2 kick in right ????

#17Lmao good point.... halfrauds have at least some common sense thenQuote:If it was on the blink it might work sometimes and not at others. If the fan didnt work at all it would be the coolant temp sensor. But most probably the thermostat (if they didnt go all the time halfords wouldn't stock them

#18My fan kept coming on for now reason as it over heated, my radiator had a tiny leak so any water to cook tge car down was leaking. Could add water to the radiator and check if the level drops
