TAP TAP TAP. Noisy injectors?

  1. #1
I have a nasty tapping noise that comes and goes on the old saxo. Its really annoying me becuase it makes the car sound like a clapped out old nail. I have recently added some wynns valve lifter treatment and it hasn't made much difference tbh.

I spoke to a mate at the weekend and he said 'that's your injectors mate'.

Do these really make that much noise and is it possible to quieten down the noise with any special additive or fluid?

    Any feedback would be great.

The additive is for cars with hydraulic lifters, saxo vts, old ford cvh and many others but the 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 Vtr engine's have solid lifters which are adjusted when the engine is cold using a feeler guage. .2mm inlet valves and .4mm exhaust valves.

Injectors do make a sound but nothing you wouyld really hear with the bonnet closed, why not get the rocker cover off an set your valve clearences up. Not a difficult job and very satisfying to havea quiter motor when your done.

Itll most likely be the tappets. Fairly common and is not a costly fix

    Definately not injectors 100%.

If you're not mechaniccally minded take it to somewhere respected that knows what theyre doing.

Ok so what is it exactly i need to do to set the clearances up. Do i need any special tools? Are there any guides on here or indeed any other sites? Thanks for the help guys.

Is there any additive suibtable for the mechanical lifters do you know?

tapping will be injectors, injectors dont tap!

the tapping will be the lifters more than like as they should be checked at the serivce, but many people fair to do so,

Ok i will have a look at these. I do know that injectors can tap very loudly on older vehicles due to the nature of how they work. This is why i woundered if the fairly simple saxo 8v engines did this.

But yeah i agree more than likely lifters
