Sunroof broken.....

  1. #1
Seems my sunroof has taken a turn for the worst and died

Opened fine when i bought the car, then its been closed since then

come to open it with the sun rearing its head and somethings not right....

It will tilt all the way up drivers side and most of the way on the passengers side

now when i go to slide it back it only goes back on the drivers side?!?!

    any ideas whats wrong?

    cheers

i dont know but when mine leaked i managed to get a second hand one for £30 from a scrappers and then put it in an sealed it so it didnt leak but you could just replace it and you will have a working one again! or you could try some WD40 first

    It doesnt leak

and WD40 has not solved the problem

I've literally pulled and no movement

pm Ilkeston autocare thats where i got mine from guy is a top lad! and very easy sounds hard but i was very surprised its just all screws basically you have to take out:

    parcelshelf support 2 screws
then the A,B and C pillars then grab handles(2 screws each) then the interior light and sunroof handle(1 screw) behind that there is a few more screws then take that bit out out with your sunvisors and then door seals carefully pull the headliner away from the edges of the sunroof opening is glued but pull gently then drop the whole headliner trying not to bend it! then its just like 14 screws for the sunroof while its out make sure the drain tubes are free(may aswell as its out) then put the new one in screws then headliner (can use spray glue to re attach (but not needed) then the revers of whats above its not hard took me(very amature) about 3 hours out and in

I think one of the buts that connect to the winder will have slipped.
    Easyish fix if it's that.

A new sunroof is easy to fit also, rarely fits perfectly first time tho

mine fit perfect first time! you have to turn it 90degrees to the roof slot the winder mechanisim in then lay it down flat with a good beed of silicone!

Okies, this "should" be the problem

Remove the sunroof handle and lighting console that will leave you with a bit of black plastic with a creme/white thing that the handle attached to, if you then were to remove this unit (2 bolts?) you will then have something a little like this :-

The yellow circled bits are what the winder moves to open/close the sunroof, if you yam a flat screwdriver and try push then back individually (will need to work out which is the right way im afraid) this will then get them both in sync with each other, i recommend you do it so the sunroof is closed incase it doesn't work properly. then just a case of popping the bits back on again.

I accept no responsibility if it doesnt work, it did for me tho

Ill give it a try LOL

So just ram a screwdriver in? haha, what do you mean? push, pull?

the ribbed cable things, force each to either the left or the right.
Also check that the wheels that fyts between em as part of the winder emch isn't broke as that can cause the slippage
