Strong petrol smell in the engine oil?

Ok guy's this seems to be going down hill, Last week the car failed it's MOT on it's emissions, had it diagnosed and they said it need a new cat everthing else was fine apart from the lambda sensor which was slow but working. The guy said it was because it was further away from the manifold than it should be due to it being a Raceland 4 branch but it was still working. So I fitted a new CAT, changed the oil/filter, plugs and air filter whilst I was at it.
The car passed it's emissions and got it's MOT. Now It's using lot's more petrol than it has before in the last couple of days and my fresh oil stinks of petrol from the dip stick and the oil filler cap. Has anyone got any ideas for me I love the VTR but I'm really thinking of giving up with it now and getting something else after constantly working on it for a full year(Gripe over and I've put my dummy back in). Ideas please, Rez.

PS there's also a strong smell of un burnt fuel coming from the exhaust even when the car is hot and upto temp. The car isn't using burning oil, no smoke other than more steam when cold if you know what I mean. The head gaskets ok no mayo or anything in the rocker or water and it's not losing water. Still seems to have plenty of power.

90bhp with Cat under the car. W 2000.

at a guess I'd say lambda/Cat orientated, but maybe worth getting a diagnostics on it

Lambda was slow on the diagnostic a few days ago so I think I'm going to get a brand new one ordered. Thanks mate.
