Hey guys, ive just noticed ive got a knocking noise coming from my drivers side suspension. I Recently had lowering springs put on so im fairly confident it isnt that. BUT! I recently changed the drop link bar myself and by pure confusion i took off the plastic ends on the droplink bars, if you've ever seen them you'll know what i mean
Could that be the problem?
Drivers side knocking from suspension

-
#2probably droplinks or anti roll bar bushes.
-
#3Droplinks most probably, just had them done on mine.
-
#4If it's the drop link it should be pretty obvious when you take the wheel off.
I had my drop link knocking for ages, and as soon as i took the wheel off you could just move it about with your hand.
After i lowered my mates 106 he had a knocking noise.
Turned out to be the strut top nut (the nut on top of the damper) wasn't tight enough.
Tightened that up and all was good.
Just make sure everything is tight
-
#5Drop link bar it is then i reckon, OH Yay!! That wasnt a pain in the ass the first time!! lol, I'll do it again then, Cannot wait!
lmao
-
#6OK, So i took off the wheel and the drop link bar is fine. Bad times!
I Was driving her today and it seems to be getting worse, and ive found out that if i turn the steering wheel sharply clockwise it knocks. Any ideas? Or should i just book it in a garage? lol -
#7Have you had a look at the nut on top of the shock absorber?
Just check everything is tight before taking it to the garage. -
#8Check the spring is seated in the strut ok. Mine did this and the top of the spring had popped out from the spring pan.
-
#9Mine seems to knock on lock in both directions and like a wobbly noise over uneven road, over bumps and if I go up and edge or kurb. Tisss foooked lol
-
#10Quote:Have you had a look at the nut on top of the shock absorber?

Thanks both!

#11mine did this put a new srut top bearing in and mount.
-
#12Could be a number of things
Top mounts/ bearings
Drop links
Ball joints
Bottem of the strut may have ovaled out
The nut on top of the strut might not be tight if its just been lowerd -
#13Just learn to live with it lol. Ive replaced, wishbones, antiroll bar bushes, drop links, track rod ends, dampers, top mounts, and wheel bearings and still have a knock on my passenger side lol.
-
#14I Would, lol. However the last thing i wanna do is be driving along and bang! My car drops to one side and dies. The last thing i could do with right now is a huge garage bill or my car being writen off lol.
-
#15Yea i know what you mean mate, my next port of call is changing the engine mounts.......i planned to change everything anyway but still fucking irritatingQuote:I Would, lol. #16Lol, i know mate. I drive with my music quite loud anyways but because i know its there i swear i can feel it! lmao. And its only at slow speeds going thru residential areas where the roads suck! and thats where i live so everytime i jump in the car thats what i have to deal with, Almost makes me not want to drive her at all!Quote:Yea i know what you mean mate, my next port of call is changing the engine mounts.......i planned to change everything anyway but still fucking irritating

Oh btw. If it makes you feel anybetter your Saxo is frrrreeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkiiiiiiiiiinnnnn nnnnnnnggggggg
ssssssssswwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaattttttt tt!!

#17could be droplinks or ya wishbone pal i had the same thing a week ago got it sorted lol thats what mine was .
-
#18Which one do you mean?Quote:could be droplinks or ya wishbone pal i had the same thing a week ago got it sorted lol thats what mine was .
I Had my wheel off the other day and i couldnt move my droplink and it looked peachy so i have no idea. Im a glorified noob aswell so therefore have little mechanical experience lol -
#19I'm having the exact same problem as you mate SOOOOO annoying!!!!! I've had enough now and so I'm taking all my tools home to have a really good go at it. Gona get a pry bar in all the joints to find out where the play is coming from.
It will be, like all the other lads ave said, either the drop links, wish bone, ball joints or the top nut on the damper.
I'll let you know how I get on mate
-
#20Lol im taking mine apart tonight aswel! Only things ive got left is top mount bearings and driveshafts.........literally changed everything else and its still there fucking thing!
-
#21Mine has turned into a proper clunking noise now. (New thread) It did it earlier as i sat inside. Im thinking surely the shocks??
-

Any luck guys? My ol man and my sisters husband are convinced its the ball joint, so as soon as i can ima jack her up and have a lookQuote:Lol im taking mine apart tonight aswel! -
#23I cant really do much today as its absolutly chucking it down! Im going to change the top mount bearings next week then the only thing left is the driveshafts.
-
#24Have you replaced your ball joint mate?
-
#25I put new wishbones and track rod ends on mate so all the ball joints have been replaced.
-
#26Oh right, Does yours knock when you push down on the arch??
-
#27No it doesnt mate.
-
#28Hmmmmm, well mine does. I just jacked her up and all the joints are intact and none knocking. So im just gunna bite the bullet and take it to a garage. Oh Yay!!
-
#29So im back to thinking it might be the shocks?
-
#30I had something similar to this, when i went round a corner to the right at a certain speed (about 30mph) or driving over uneven road, there was a knocking noise coming from the drivers side front wheel.
Replaced the driveshaft and it went away, have you tried this? -
#31tbh mate, i havent tried replacing anything other than the droplink. I'm a glorified mechanical numpty so i think im just gunna leave it to the professionals lol. Not only that i dont wanna be buying spare parts left right and centre and fitting them and then that not fixing the problem yano?Quote:I had something similar to this, when i went round a corner to the right at a certain speed (about 30mph) or driving over uneven road, there was a knocking noise coming from the drivers side front wheel.

#32Sounds like what ive got above tbh......like i say my intention was to replace everything anyway but the driveshafts are next port of call!
-
#33Ok mate well im ring the garage on tuesday now as i doubt they are open tomoz as its bank holiday. When i find out whats wrong i'll let you know
-
#34i have had similar knocking whilst turning corners turned out to be the drive shaft. Currently have a knocking not related to drive shaft but symptoms sound the same as what i had!
-
#35Well ive put her in the garage, And it turns out, the droplink that i fitted was fucked and it caused the lower ball joint to become fucked and thus the horrible clunking noise. New lower Arm and New Drop Link Bar. £120 Is this a good garage price or am i being raped? I Dont actually care im going to pay it anyway im just wondering
