Insurance Write Offs.. - Updated with Prices from Citroen!

After an old lady reversed into my parked car on sunday, I've visited a few bodyshops for a quote to get the damage repaired.

Now at first I thought it was a small job, few hundred quid tops..

The work that needs doing is:
    New wing
    New arch
New door part of vt kit (big scratch on black part so apparently needs new 1)
Alloy refurb (can't really see in pic but there is a dent in the rim)
    New wing mirror
Then all this sprayed to match

Got a quote for.. wait for it.. £1400 :O

As the car is only worth probably £1500, im a little worried the car will be written off!

How does it work, I obviously want to keep the car so how does this business of buying it back work? How does it work with getting it back on the road? Will i get a cash payout instead of them fixing the car?

    Whats going to happen

If you can shed some light on some/all of this, i'd very much appreciate it!

Mike cant u ask the old duffer for cash say £500 for example then buy the parts yourself and do the work yourself that way the car would need to be a CAT D as would seriously half the value of the car . well thats what id do , as dont think all insurance companies do the buy it back thing . just a thought

They can't take my car and just give me some money, i own it lol. Its still road worthy ;/ The lady cant afford it, most she could do was 300 quid which isnt enough!

    Jesus CHRIST!

How do you need a new wing mirror, looks fine from here?

Is there any way you can get parts for cheap off here and get them primed and sprayed from anyone you know, that amount of money for such little damage is ridiculous!

    Hope you get it sorted

yeah but once they pay you out they own it surely !

Citroen want £200 for just a bloody arch! same with door panel and wing.. its crazy! Wing mirror is broken and doesnt sit right.

I could get it fixed myself, but I want it done properly and in the end its not my fault so my car should be put back to the condition it was in before the accident.

well go with pattern parts then bonnet was £90 for me iirc. but you run the risk of it being written off, and you will be the only looser if that happens.

Got the insurance bloke coming on friday, so will have to see what he thinks.

Edit: Does anyone know if I offered to source the arch and door sill would the insurance company accept that and cover the cost if i got a reciept?

As your car is not a hard colour parts wise to get hold of I would have not told the insurance company & taken the £300 of the old lady & got the parts in your colour off ebay.

    Steve.

But its an alloy refurb + sorting scratches on the door too, otherwise i would.
  14. #14
insurance wont let you source parts well mine didnt .
  15. #15
I don't see why you don't just get all the parts from here or ebay, the whole lot will cost a couple of hundred quid maximum its an easy colour to get hold of.

Much better then running the risk of a right off imo.

the insurance wont let you put secondhand parts on because they wont be able to give a gaurantee on the parts and work carried out.
if they pay you for the damage and its classed as a right off they will want you to send in the keys and v5 then they own it because they have bought it off you, you might get the chance to buy it back but my bet is it will go to auction. plus if you did buy it back it would be a cat c-d and would only be worth pennies when you come to sell it on.
bite the bullet, get as much from the lady who done it as you can, buy the bits from the nice people off here get it done right but cheap and keep it off the accident register.
its a bitch i know but if you go down the insurance route you could loose your car

    Total 210

dont go through insurance and get the lady to pay for it most people would rather pay cash than insurance and then your inurance dont need to no and wot be a risk ov it bein witten off

mate take the money and run, the insurance will increase your premium whether you're at fault or not. 300 quid will easily sort that, and where most people would have just driven off she actually took the trouble to try and make good her damage
