manifold or performance cams

  1. #1
just had my exhaust decatted love the sound of it now was gonna get either a 4-2-1 manifold or performance cams put in next friday but not sure which to do first
    1)how much will each cost
2)wot difference will it make to my car
can get them all fitted by my mate he'll charge me £40 for manifold and cams
    !!!!!!HELP!!!!!!!
  2. #2
your looking at £150 up to £250 for a nice and tidy stainless steel manifold.
raceland are doing a cracking 4-2-1 manifold on ebay for about £130.

you should get a nice raspy sound from the manifold. i had a gmc 4-1 manifold on my car and it was very raspy.... nice performance increase though.

your cams you'll be looking at £400 for the actual cams and a remap.

but you should be taking off like a missile after all that...
only thing is if you tune the tits off the vtr engine you will lose the low down torque that the vtr is good for...
16v is probably the best upgrade you can do.

yes but a 4-2-1 manifold increases low down torque so all will be well
  4. #4
so which would u have done first
  5. #5
no real point in camming without doing headwork first and then remapping once the cam is in so if you can afford to have all 3 done at once then go for a the cam. if not then go for the manifold.
  6. #6
so manifold then cam then re mapping just bought oz's bmc kit
  7. #7
yeah fannymould first. get all your breathing mods done first
  8. #8
manifold is gettin fitted friday were is best place to get one fro
  9. #9
gmc motosport mate, wise choice going for this first
  10. #10
i want a 4-2-1 manifold i want it for set off and acceleration
  11. #11
so which one 4-2-1 or 4-1
  12. #12
4-2-1 manifold for torque mate. dont think gmc do a 4-2-1, but i may be wrong. i did manifold first then cam and post and polish together and youve seen my baby roll.lol. good luck mate
  13. #13
noticed u got a mk2 vtr mate how did u decat it without buyin a new manifold?

decat is easy peasy if its an Early Mk2 as the cat is under the car, as mine was!

im also looking for a cam & 4-2-1 mild steal tho, best cam options fopr midrange torque anyone?????
  16. #16
ohh i didnt no that i thought the cat was in the manifold on all mk2 sax's u learn summat new evryday

    cheers ash

landy, plus if you buy the manifold first, when you port and polish it, it will be correct to the new manifold port sizes and shapes.
  19. #19
nice one my plans r as follows
    1. manifold
    2.cams ans re-mapped
    3. port and polish
    4. nitrous
is this in the right order if not rearrenge them on how i should do them
  20. #20
Ive heard those raceland ones are not the best quality. I would stick with either gmc or supersprint.
  21. #21
wise words dan, both the names you mentioned are very good quality, but do the companys make 4-2-1 which is what he wants for torque. also long as you do the cam and head work together after the manifold you will be cool mate.
  22. #22
gmc dont do 4-2-1 for vtr

gmc are quality fitted without no problems and im well impressed with mine
  23. #23
im confussed with shall i get a 4-2-1 like ash as showed me or a gmc 4-1
  24. #24
    gmc mate

gmc mainfolds have proven power gains and are also the correct tuned length. and i tend to trust companies who have actually tested their products and don't just sell things by using a sales pitch without really knowing what they're talking about.
  27. #27
how much r the gmc and were from
  28. #28
you buy gmc manifolds from gmc funnily enough
    gmcmotorsport.co.uk
  29. #29
    from gmc

    here
  30. #30
    how much
  31. #31
my cat is not on the downpipe is it
  32. #32
look on the website under 'price list' for prices. i don't know if your cat is in the manifold, easy to find out though, and gmc sell for both mk1 and 2 vtr's.
  33. #33
4-1 is gonna cost me 180 is this better than a 4-2-1
  34. #34
neithers better than each other. depends what YOU want
  35. #35
i would go for the gmc as the 4-1 will improve the mid range and top end, and the vtr has good low end torque anyway. and it's from gmc so you can't go wrong.
  36. #36
    agreed
  37. #37
right a wanna get a manifold to improve my low end torque i wanna make it more faster settin of and improve my 0 60 and so on
  38. #38
i think the supersprint manifolds are 4-2-1 and are the only ones which are the proper tuned length. if they're not the correct length then there's no point getting one. read the manifold section on the gmc site for the reasons why. personally if it was my money i'd still go for the gmc 4-1 as you'll notice the improvement more on a vtr.
