alright if im wanting to cam my vtr mk2 what needs to be bought do i need to buy new pullys aswell etc or what im not very common with cams as you can tell and im just a bit confused...

    Once youve settled on what cam you want you will need the following;

    Cam belt kit
    Water pump
    Head gasket
    Headbolts
    Vernier adjustable pulley
    Cam seal

And some new Oil and Coolant to go in once fitted.

With parts and fitting, including the remap you can watch the cost soar towards a grand.

Double the price of a Vts coversion

but if its what he wants to do then just let him cam it...

I wont be going round his house and kidnapping him if he does.

Just trying to give some helpfull advise, its cheaper and gives better performance gains.

But if his heart is set on putting a cam in it, all the info on what he needs there.

270 degree cam + new springs +h/gasket+bolts+belt --no need for water pump etc ,unless its leaking .
about £400 inc vat + delivery
going further than that starts to cost money

cammed my vtr for about £200, shop around, first of which being a haynes manual if your not car literate, (do the work yourself it really isnt hard) cambelt cost me £3, gotta love ebay, newman ph3 brand new off here- £150 posted, headgasket kit £20, oil and coolant i had, but just say £30-50, and i got a rallye inlet and tb to help with idle, got mine for £35 but budget about £70 for one, jobs a good 'un, depending wh cam you choose you "should" get new springs especially for a ph3 but i never and its fine, raised rev limiter may screw it a bit but mines currently unmapped

mk2 silver top engine with roller rockers ALWAYS needs springs changing -they are not meant for higher than std lift cams --power will go flat over 6k with std white coloured springs

I was thinking. I have a mk2, but the engine is a mk1 engine, i guess because the cat is under the car and mk1 oil filter.
Is this silver top roller rocker?

mines a 90bhp silver top, pulls hard to the limiter, will be upgrading the springs when i strip it to turbo anyway, but just an example of how cheap it is if your willing to look around and do the work yourself, i knew id be changing my mind after a short while hence not buying them originally

ive got the 90bhp silvertop, i fitted the pt40 kent cam, only changed my belt and timing belt with it, runs a sweet as a nut, got it rollin roaded and it runs 108bhp, only has an air filter and de-cat on top of the cam... 18bhp increase wasnt bad. boy tht rollin roaded it said i need it remaped to rev to 7k instead of 6,200k to get max power bt obviously need the springs changed etc changed for tht

could always get a s1/s2 rallye head.

270 as standard, and decent enough valve springs i would of thought.

also i think the rallye valves are sligthly bigger
