Can a VTS run without a Lambda Sensor?

I have just finished a VTS conversion with a mate, only things is Lambda sensor is damaged and not connected as it should be.
When i try for start the engine, it sounds like its trying to start but just cant. it sounds like it gets 90% of the way of starting but just wont start.

Can the Lambda sensor be effecting it? As a friend of mine told me on his 1.1 when his Lambda was damaged his engine wouldn't start, but other people I have spoken to have said it should start even without the Lambda sensor.

Whats thr real truth with VTS starting without a Lambda?

Get a replacement lambda and try again

gsf/eurocarparts should do one - could buy one today and try later on.

I'm pretty sure they can start without one plugged in for what it's worth

they should start without it plugged in.

They normally dont become active until a certain temperature IIRC so it shouldnt be the cause of non start

I got a new 1 but havent fitted it yet, will be fitting it tonight.

i'll see what happens once its fitted today.

Just I want my car starting, and just thinking of the things it could be thats not causing it to start.

Only outstanding things on the car that need to be done are:

1) Lambda sensor needs fitting
2) Radiator needs bleeding
3) Induction kit needs to be put back on

you guys got any clues why the car wont start up after a VTS conversion based on what I have told you?

i havent got a vts, but when my lambda sensor snapped off, it kept mis firing, but like i sed, i havent got a vts, they might be different

lambda is a corrector it correct fueling so without it, it will over fuel.

wil be best get a new one and try again!

Running Vts Ecu ? It unlocked? If so then have you unplugged the immobiliser box?

You got a return fuel line?

Everything plugged in? Any spare plugs on look?

Got enough fuel in the car? Spray some 'easystart at the TB when turning over, if it starts and cuts out then a possible fuel problem.

Could be a lot of things without anymore info

I also have a predator ECU as well, I might as well try the Pred with the car just be sure.

if an ECU is Locked how does the car sound when its trying to start up. Does is not even come on? When I turn the key my car sounds like it wants to start and get like 90% of the way of starting, the engine just keeps making the startup sound, it dont cut out, it just sounds like it is trying to start continoulsy well as long the key is turned.

Does it sound to you like its locked or unlocked guys or does it sound like it could be another issue?

Lambdas take a bit of time to warm up, so I'd imagine the Ecu will have some sort of afterstart map while the lambda warms up before going openloop

Plug the 'Predator in, connect a laptop and see what's going on engine wise - try and start it and see what happens.

Make sure the predator has a map to suit your engine, although it should still start your car

I lost my serial cable so need to get a new one. Whats the point though of plugin my laptop into the Pred though?

Also when an ECU is locked what does it do or sound like when you try to start it?

i was told same thing ecu was unlocked clearly wasnt..

Well the predator will tell you coolant temp, rpm when cranking, battery voltage, 60-2 tooth logger, tps value, map value, manifold air temp.

Should give you a slight clue as to if any of them are amiss.

You got all the earths connected.

When Ecu locked the engine won't start, just sounds like an engine turning over.

yep when its locked you get no spark or injectors firing but everything else goes as normal.

when you say turning over do you mean and engine trying to start but not quite starting? as this is how it is with mines.

1st time we turned key it did sound like it was going to start but after that would just make the turn over sound no spluttering or revs etc

mines sound so similar to that powers up but just cant follow through, it sounds like when you really wanna sneeze, you puff in air, puff in air but just cant achooooo. if ya get what i mean

Ahh yes, the donut that didnt put a note in with the ecu

Should be with you today/tomorrow mate </thread hijack>

Vts will 100% start with the lambda disconnected.

Is the ecu light on the dash? Is the fuel pump priming with the ignition.

This will help diagnose stuff.
