Whats the tool, to do up suspension shockers onto the strut?

  1. #1
Need to know what this tool is, looked at my front suspension leg and the big gold nut that holds the shocker in place, looks as though it has worked itself loose, needs to be done up.

Now i know there is a special tool you can buy which locks in the holes, ive had a good search but cannot find anything, could mole grips be used?

Anyone else has this problem of the shock working loose?

    I'm lost?

The stut top needs a goose neck spanner and torx bit.

To remove the shock from the strut you need stilsons.

    Any help?

Just looked on the Bay you seem correct,

Now what size would i need? lol

Is it worth buying one or using mole grips of spanner and hmmer to do it up with?

If that nut comes loose what happens?

    get an adjustable one

Its got a fair few threads until it comes off, it would bang ALOT be quite painfull and probably damage the damper inside.

well when turning i have a very loud clonk/clunk i know it could be a number of things but i have check mostly everything with the play and bushes everything seems fine when looked i could see that this nut had loads of threads showing...

They usually turn untill theres about 4mm left ishh, but i guess that depends on damper to damper.

there must be 1cm holding it in then !

I've been looking for the name of this spanner for a few weeks now lol, well shall buy one and report back im sure this is the causing for the clunking noise.

Would eBay be the only place to get one, would a local partco, motorfactors have these?

Most likley as these are used on cars alot.

Youd be able to twist it with WD40 by hand through the coil majority of the way, then the last few hammer n screwdriver, dont chew it up too much though or youll have a hard job undoing it, at least you can find out if that is your pboelm before ordering a C-Spanner.

use a big ass pair of plumbers pliers, £6-£7 from a hardware shop. thats what i use and it does up nicely

  25. #25
    Ahh you mean that!

Use some loctite on the thread when you do it up...

use a set of stilsons, i dont think that will be your clunk though, i cant imagine that will have come loose, the clunk will be the strut top bearings fucked, youll need some spring compressors, then strip the strut, if the bearings fucked itll fall apart when removing, if not it should come out still as one sealed unit. dont UNDO that nut your on about without compressing the springs and stripping the strut

I dont want to un do it, want to do it up, doubt its bearings to be fair lowered it at the end of last year and everything looked fine, its all tight up top, clunk could be down to ball joint or driveshaft but everything looks fine, so putting it down to this maybe it could be a knackerd shock.
