car is coughing.....

   hello all
   
   picked up a gti on monday and when in idle it seems like it is having trouble running... on a couple of occasions it has just cut out...... starts up again fine... just wondering if any one can help?

   possibly icv needs cleaning/replacing?

   As above give your icv a clean. Check the sparkies and coilpack.

   Its not cammed is it? My mates got a 106 GTI which is cammed but not mapped and the idle is lump as hell when you first start it up and can cut out a couple of times unless you give it a bit of a rev and what not.

   It's a common problem, check the breather hose to the airbox isnt split, that was my problem.
   
   I'm surprised there isn't a trouble-shooting sticky on this tbh.
