Alternator Query

   Hi guys/girls
   
   i think its my alternator, but im getting a whining noise when the car warms up. it starts as a low pitch whine and gets louder as the revs go up.
   
   Is this an alternator problem?
   
   If so would a 1997 alternator off a 106 gti fit my saxo 02 vts?
   
   any help on the problem would be great.

   hi mate try reving the engine from under the bonnet then see if you can hear wher the noise is from.. bt im not sure about the 106 alternator u will havto w8 for sum1 else to commen maybe just a dodgy belt

   I had this problem, replaced the belt and its still there..knowing when to stop tightening is experience LOL

   I have this problem on mine and my grandad who had a look at it says its the bearing within the alternator itself and they need replacing so either get the alternator bearings change or buy a new one,
   mines getting doen by my grandads mate who is going to replace all the bearings for me

   Cheers guys just need to know if a 1997 106 gti alternator will fit my vts

   best thing to do is take your alternator out.. and put it against othe alternators to see if they match... i kno when i changed mine i looked every where for a VTR alternator and failed.. but in the end found out a VW polo alternator matched!
