Petrol problem / guzzling noise?

   My fill my Saxo up each week full costing about £46. I get about 300 miles out of the full tank which isn't that good.
   
   I drive sensibly and as eco as possible but I can't seem to increase my MPG.
   
   I was reading a previous thread earlier about MPG and someone said "your exhaust must be blowing". Now I don't have a blowing exhaust, but when I accelerate, there is like a guzzling sound that sounds like it's coming from under my seat/middle of the car.
   
   Anyone got any idea's as to what this may be or why my MPG is quite poor?

   It could be your petrol tank because it sits behind you. I used to hear mine when i had my back seats out. I`m also getting this much mpg and i granny drive as well.

   Some saxo fuel pumps are very noisy and make a guzzling noise. 300 miles ain't too bad but agree it could be better.
