  1. #1
im currently in the process of smoking my headlights, but i cant get the F*CKING lenses off the lights!!!!

Can someone PLEASE tell me how they did theirs asap as i've tried the oven, hair dryer, hot knife and screwdriver but i think the problem is the glue isnt melting enough.

give me a step by step guide in extreme detail of how to get the lenses off.

    CHEERS!!

Put them in the oven at 150 degrees for 10 minutes, by this point the headlights themselves should be bloody hot. Remember to take the 3 metal clips off, then get 2 knives or flat head screw drivers and prise the glass apart.

tried this mate but the glue just didnt melt and dont wanna put em in for any longer cos they got fookin hot, could it be that its been done before and stuck back with some different sealant? because it looks different to the pics from here

I would guess that they used a different glue then. That's gotta suck. Are they a different colour to standard already?
  5. #5
    How does it look different?
  6. #6
no their original colour, the glue looks like white bathroom sealant and its really thick on one side and basicly none on the other side

Mine was like that mate Just heat up an area with the hairdryer and jam a knife into the sealant and see if it goes in. If it does go in, heat up all round the seal then work your way along with the knife prising the glass apart. Have faith

ok, ive just tried puttin the other one in the oven to see if i get any luck with that. BTW is it meant to stink of burning plastic or is the plastic getting too hot?

aww no way you dident burn them did you????

i got the front of mine off within 10 mins each just with a hairdryer and 2 flat head screwdrivers just held the hairdryer right close to all the glue at the top got the screwdrivers in there and used a stanley blade to cut the glue as i was pulling them apart at the top and done the same to the bottom of the light just the same and hey presto job done

    gaz

right, i have deduced that the previous owner must have taken the lights apart before and stuck them back together with some extra strong bathroom sealant - it looked like (and felt and acted like) the stuff that sticks my shower to my wall.
so basicly, after 15 mins in the oven at 150 degrees, the sealant didnt melt abit - whereas the plastics behind the lenses did badly

    however, all is ok

one of my mates has angels so i rang him to see if i could get his standards which he let me (legend love you aiden ) but i owe him a pair of standards urgently

anyway, took them home, put em in the oven at 150 degrees for 5 mins and they slipped away easily, no problems no hassle etc.

so i now have smoked headlights will post some pics up later on the pics thread.

Sounds like you was having a bit of a mare mate, pleased your sorted now I'll have a look at the pics when they are up.

ok, heres the pics. for future reference, i recommend 5 minutes at 150 degrees, and put the headlights on a baking tray so the platic doesnt melt on the grill - like so:

and heres how it looked with the other headlights (when it worked):
