#2Insurance - tell your company - they may want an engineers report to say you have done a proper job
DVLA - tell them (section on V5) of change in engine number -
#3As above declare everything, it will need updating on your log book and possibly a engineers report to be sure its road legal, then theres your insurance, going from a group 7 to a 14 is a big leap. Better to be safe than sorry in the event of a accident!
-
#4Cool i could probably get away with still taxing it as a vtr? Im sure that will jump up a bit as a gti
-
#6Ah i have just bought a years tax for the vtr ;S
-
#7What year is the car anyway ??? if it's before 2001 then the tax shouldn't change at all because anything over a 1.6 was the same price,, my brothers 1998 328i cost the same to tax as his gf's 1997 VTR
-
#8Bums! Its a 51 reg vtr lol
-
#9my mate who did the 16v engine conversion said he didn't need an engineers report, he said only if your putting a smaller engine in your car then you need a report, dont quote me on this im only the messenger lol
-
#10tax wont change joe but the insurance will
you wont need an enginers report -
#11Cool im with adrian flux so shouldn't be too big a deal.
Won't i have to tell DVLA? As engine number won't match chassis number? -
#12yes just fill out your V5 with the new engine number and sned it off, they will change it all over
-
#13change engine number . . . and dont mention it has an extra 8 valves . . .
logged at a 1.6, sorted. -
#14so if you notify the dvla by sending the v5 off with the new engine code, does this mean if you dont tell your insurance then your still insured as its insured as a 1.6? im sure its says 1.6 8v on the log book then you will get arse raped by the insurance if its got 16v's
-
#15Nope, as you have changed the engine to a higher powered one.
Insurance company should be informed of any change to a car from factory spec!
