Dipstick end broke off in engine

  1. #1
Was checking OH's saxo oil level and on pulling out the dipstick I felt something catch and when fully removed the 1" plastic end bit was missing...now in the bottom of the sump!

Do I need to get it out or will it either not cause any engine problems or being plastic if it does get caught will easily get mashed up??? hmm1.gif

    PS

The reason I was checking the oil was I had just replaced the sump oil pan as it was starting to hole through due to rust, a common problem on this type of car I am told.

SO removing the pan is a "simple "operation if need be.

Try draining the oil first to remove it, otherwise its sump time, safer to get it out as it could get stuck in an oil way and damage the engine.

snap. samething happend on my 02 plate vtr. it should get stuck in the gunky oil at the bottom of the sump.
the best thing would be to take the sump off and get it out really but i didnt have a problem when i left mine in.

Happens to all the later TU engines as for some odd reason then went from metal to plastic ( possibly not the newest ones in the C2 ) and I have never known it to be a problem so I would not worry to much.

Decided for peace of mind to take the sump off and get it out. Only realy taken 10 mins, a lot less time than an engine rebuild!

The bit of plastic was still stuck in the end of the dip tube.

mine snapped off ages ago and is still in there.
got told at the time that it will just sink to the bottom of the sump.
it hasnt caused me any problems
