Bloody oil leak

   Hi i have recenty just built the top half of my engine after the previous owner fucked it up all valves bent ans so on anyway got it all back together today running fine apart from a big oil leak on the front left hand side the car has had the head scimmed by the previous owner and its had a new head gasket and all new bolts could it be that it needs to be torqued up some more i appreciate any help

   if its been skimmed you need to get a headgasket with the additional thickness that was taken off the block. Could be its not been tightened up proper. Stages depends on which engine you have.

   hi sorry i forgot to say its a vts i dont know how much it was skimmed by as it was done by the previous owner but i just put on a standard head gsket could this be the problem or could i just get way with tightening the head bolts some more

   sorry i forgot to add we tightened it up how the haynes manal say i think its 20nm then 260 degrees turn

   had the head off today checked heard for cracks and checked that it is 100%flat then checked the blck and they are both fine so either it it didn't seal correctly or its was a crap gasket it was made by bga are these any good if not whats the best haed gaskets to use this is what i have been looking at http://www.cituninguk.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=29543
