Throttle pedal..doing it's own thing

  1. #1
Hello, Ive noticed that my idle speed fluctuates quite alot an also when i am slowing down my gas pedal somtimes depresses and comes back up on its own?
I noticed this recently when i lifted my foot off and then the pedal went down on its own then came back up tapping my foot

Does anyone know what this could be? or had the problem themselves?

Any help appreciated, feel like im driving herbie!

    Thanks charlie x

Idle speed fluctuating could be idle control valve however that would have nothing to do with the throttle pedal having a mind of its own. Ur best off getting it down to a garage to have a look, could be a simple cheap thing but needs sorting as this is very dangerous mate

    Soz i cant help, Tabz

    Hi Suzie,
The problem is solely the fault of the ICV (Idle Control Valve), also known as a Stepper Motor. I have the same problem at the moment and awaiting a brand spanking new one from Citroen which should be here tomorrow wooo.
What is happening is that the device is either failing or clogged which is causing the movement of the Value to be very slow, meaning it cannot control the airflow for idle correctly - causing the idle to fluctuate. The same happens with high revs, the engine doesn't need a lot of air to rev if it isn't in gear, so if the Valve is sticking it will result in the revs 'hanging' or rising.

Your first suggestion is to clean the ICV and the throttle body.

If problems persist you should replace the ICV.
