its up to you pal just depends if you want to spend money on ya car or not but
there is some stuff called ' k seal ' and its got copper fibre in it and all ya do is put it in ya water system then it flows around your engine and like helps repair it if its not to bad i did it with mine its like a 75ml blue bottle and its around 20 quid you dont get much but it works mint mate its worth a try its better than paying out 300 quid for labour on a new one .. leave your engine running while you put it in leave in for 5 or 10 min mate ,
    hope this helps pal

mine is this week for a head skimming, resiting values and port and polish, it is common i been told, the easiest way to tell if yours is leaking oil is either look underneath, or look in the water coolant, there will be fatty looking deposits at the top, you can either sit and watch and if it gets worse have it done, yours may never get any worse than it is now, or it might totally give in and your fucked, your call, just check your oil levels, but you dont have to have the port and polish and resiting values, im just having it cause it will feel like a new engine, hope it helps

£300 is mainly the labour, ive just had my headgasket done last month, a mate did it for me and cost me £150 altogether for parts and fitting, helps if you know the right people but sure it can be done for cheaper than that. depends if its well and truely gone or not and whether YOU think its worth doing

K seal is gay, it dont work. Temporary fix if that. Get a haynes manual, if your handy with spanners do it yourself. What model is your car?

Take its a VTR by your name. Get haynes and go for it. Or buy a 2nd hand engine and drop that in. If its only just going then hopefuly your head aint warped. Therefor you will prob get away with a new head gasket kit.
