as the title says, i'v jst recently noticed that my car makes a loud whining noise and vibrates quite badly when i go over 25mph +. it only does it when i take my foot off the accelerator.

anybody know what could be causing this?
    cheers

Does it do it when the car is in gear and out of gear, or just when decelerating when in gear?

Sounds like a driveshaft intermediate bearing.

Does it definately only do it when you come off the accelerator, or could it be that you cant hear it or feel it when accelerating due to the noises/vibrations of the engine? Or is it too loud for that?

It sounds a lot like it could be a wheel bearing to be fair. They produce a high pitched whine when they die, and can cause vibration in extreme cases.

If you have access to a sturdy jack, jack up each side of the car in turn and grab each wheel with both hands opposite each other. Give the wheel a solid shake against the suspension, your looking for any movement in the wheel on the hub as if the wheel bolts are loose. Obviously dont shake it like mad or the car could come off the jack/axle stands, if its dead the bearing wear will be quite apparent.

It doesnt make any further knocking or humming noises depending on whether your turning or not does it?

this is true, didn't know what car he had though, and those things on the profile "Cars" are often many years out of date. but only other thing i could think of would be a wheel bearing.
