Saxo VTR Engine Issue?

  1. #1
    Just bought a Mk2 Saxo vtr 02plate.

All good condition 80k miles etc.

got 2 problems which i would like help on from you guys.

1: Key immobiliser light keeps flashing but allows engine start. and stays flashing while driving.

is this the immobiliser failing? or the reciever signal?

2: The car has a K&N Air filter on which has left a tiny tube that i assume would be connected to the original air layout just sitting there very slightly dripping oil

+ having this K7N filter on the car does this does stop cold air from coming through the vents?

    thanks,

Also about the immobiliser, could this just be the key needs programming?

no cold air through the vents would be a problem with the coolant system. Tried changing the thermostat?

As for the immob, it wont need programming. Did the original owner mention it? As it wouldnt start if it did need programming

Got the car from trade, he didnt apparently know why as they all say really.

got a bigger issue that ive noticed :/
    the only issue really.

in first second and third gear the engine is rattling (metalic banging sound) 4th/5th run smooth.

all the gears are smooth to change..

if i leave it in neutral and press the cluth then release you will hear a slight metal spinning noise, and when im driving if i keep the clutch pressed to just after the biting point it doesnt make the noise, will this be the clutch? or the gearbox?

    thanks

I get this.. and it's the heat shield on the cat in the manifold.
Have a look at it, mine is really loose and rattles at certain revs

This sounds like the clutch release bearing. It's a gearbox off job to change.. but just because it's making a noise doesn't mean you need to change it just yet

That's the oil breather pipe by the sound of things.
It should join back into the air filter pipe, so the fumes go back into the engine.
Mine is open as well.. it's not a problem really, but it needs sorting at some point

Thanks man you seem to have covered it all really!

sticking it in a garage on tuesday, and hopefully it will be the clutch release. due to it cant be the gear box?

    - when its in nuetral press then release the clutch you can hear the noise from then on until place into gear (clutch down).

and the same noise in 1st-3rd gear but the noise will go if i keep the clutch pressed close just after biting (when just set off).

like a spinning metal noise / sometimes a squeek spin noise.

    thanks again!

Yeh, almost certainly the release bearing.

Cheap little part... but labour at a garage will kill you!

Maybe looking at £400 in labour

got it in the garage, they striped it and found it was the gearbox to fault.

got the company i bought from to pay for it! (:
i payed £100 towards they paid all the rest, all good with no warranty.

good old trading standards, i can now finally get to enjoy my VTR.

would you recommend any mods/ styles/ speakers or subs, if you have time?

    so far i have:

3 rear tints, rear blacked out tail lights, sport fuel cap, K&N Air, inbuilt 400W parcel shelf speakers.

    Thanks (:

Wow thats a good job getting them to pay for the most of it! I think my gearbox is on its way out but not looking forward to the labour costs
