Right im not too upto scratch with engines but have a few questions..
    1. what is a throttle bodie? :O lmao
    2. what does it do
and 3.. how much am i looking at to get 1/a better one if my car already has one? iv got a 1998 vts mk1 Soz bout STUPID questions but gotta find out some how Thanks ppl

You mean throttle boddies; they are a performance part for your car, and will allow more air into the cylinders by having 4 inlets rahter than one that divides to each cylinder.

This has probably been covered by the way just use the search button

Individual throttle bodies greatly improve engine induction so supply each cylinder with the right amount of air exactly when they need it. The best gains with ITBs will only come when combined with a wild camshaft to ensure the air can enter/exit the cylinder well enough to cope with the increased induction ability- which also goes to say that you must have an unrestricting exhaust system + manifold to
make the most of these mods.
Performancewise I'd say from a vts engine with bodies, wild cams, decat, racing exhaust system and remap could be anything between 170 and 200bhp

That sounds like what im after lol what sort of price will i look at to get the boddies? iv already de-catted & have S/s Exhaust system.. && do you have any idea what cost a re-map will be? and where do i get things like this done? lol I live in clacton on sea if that helps?! CHEERS!!!

1000£ for the ITBs, 400£ for the remap, 300£ for cams.
If you're going to do this you should get a remap only after buying the cams and bodies, if you get cams then map you will prob need another map after you fit the bodies. Scour the Internet for the best mappers near you

I would fit cams like catcam 708's or Newman ph3s and run it unmapped for a while, then fit the bodies and get a map but you could fit the bodies first I suppose. Ideally save up your 2k or whatever, get all the parts, and get them fitted and mapped by the same garage at the same time.
Best to buy everything from kamracing.co.uk or .com can't remember which
No worries mate!- I'm saving for the same!

if you did decided to go down this route mate i wouldnt bother with a remap and go get yourself a standalone ecu other wise you wont see the best results and those cams mentioned above will work with a standard engine but with boddies id go wilder like ph4's or something and just wait till youve got all the bits there and get them fitted in a 1er but be prepared to have some deep pockets cause this shit aint cheap

Cams, then spend the rest on handling mods..

where can u get these standalone ecu's from (site names)?

You dont need wild camshafts to get the most out of throttlebodies, but if you want wild camshafts then you need throttlebodies.....
    Theres a difference
A wild camshaft will not idle and would highly likely fail emissions on a standard inlet.
Individual Thottlebodies will be a benefit to a car with standard camshafts. What you tend to get is a large increase in mid range bhp and torque and a small increase at top end. The difference in mid range is considerable usually. For example the Honda S2000 gains 50bhp in places.
Peak power is for pub talk which is why they never look as good an idea as a turbo conversion but you can actually get a more efficient engine, better throttle response and the best bit is the induction bark
