Scraping Engine- To Mod or not to Mod??!!

I've done alot of miles in my car this year (20000) and have noticed that my engine seems to make alot more noise than it used to, it just sounds louder (and I'm talking about the engine not the exhaust)
There seems to be a bit of a scraping noise when it runs
I was looking forward to buying cams and bodies and making it a real beast this year, but I always have the thought in the back of my mind- what if my engine fucks up?
If it did go tits up after doing this major work I suppose I could just get hold of another one and run the cams and bodies on a new one, but just wondered whether people thought I'd be better seeing how it goes or better replacing the engine beforehand??? Alot of things to consider I know, but has anybody ever had anything major go wrong after scraping engine sounds?

I would buy a engine and then rebuild it and fit the cams and everything, this will allow you to take your time and you could prot and polish everything. It wont take you long to swop the engines over. Im still tempted to buy another engine and rebuilding it to a high standard plus that way there is no need to keep taking the car of the road to have work done to the engine. It will just be a case of taking the car of the road for one day so that you can switch the engines.
