In first second and third gear the engine is rattling (metalic banging sound) 4th/5th run smooth.

all the gears are smooth to change..

If i leave it in neutral and press the clutch then release you will hear a slight metal spinning noise.

When im driving if i keep the clutch pressed to just after the biting point it doesnt make the noise, will this be the clutch? or the gearbox?

the main noise is metalic rattling, and maybe the odd screach on occasion.

    any help would be appreciated!.

problem is your gearbox is made out of soft french cheese and is knackered. lol probz output shaft as said above, could be the clutch release bearing causing the spinning sound which is another common one to go

could this maybe cause the louder version of the noise in gears 1-3 (knocking/tinny) with occasional squeel.?
    maybe gearbox oil?

or is it the gearbox/clutch just on its way out..
if i keep the clutch down just literally after biting point (when set off) the noise wont happen but this is absolute effort and fighting with it which is obviosuly unnessesary for a car.

    thanks.

++ can anyone provide rough prices on new vtr clutch and a new gearbox?

+ maybe a site or store?

    appreciated guys.

euro car parts are about £60 for a clutch and a new box you are gonna be looking at around £250 up to around £400 obv plus fitting! the release bearing wouldnt make the noise as bad mate mine went 2 weeks ago and is minor noise. try your linkages to mate but i would say that your box is shaged. but changing the oil might prolong the box for a little while longer if you can put up with the noise!

£45 for a cheapie clutch kit from euro car parts which the clutch release bearing is already chattering and also i paid £50 for the gearbox, which was a bargain but apart from that you'll have no problem picking one up for less than £150 mate... why not alter the ratios? Try a 1.1 box or VTS box or something? And garage fitting you are looking at 4/5 hours labour

    cheers for the info (:

had it checked out and they said without stripping it it seems like the gears dropped or something + the clutch is sounds and feels just fine.
1st/2nd/3rd gear rattly, 4th & 5th perfect, probably cheaper to grab a referbed one thye mentioned? (if the company i boguht form try to worm out of fixing it)

at the min though sending it to the sales garage i bought it form now ive had it looked at and got a statement to prove its that if these guys lie, so "if" they find a problem they said they'd fix it, after me getting trading standards in on it and bringing up the sales of goods act (:

so hopefully all will be well by tuesday! and i'll be able to finally give my vtr a proper drive. only trip i got planned is a 7mile M-way trip which is no where near enough for my new car

sorry for the hell of a paragraph man, if you dont mind what induction kit would you recommend (nothing tooo priceyy but dont mind to much) and what back box/system?

    Much appreciated!
