    Video with what it sounds like.....Rough

    Anyway

    ICV has been changed and so has the lambda

    seems to have started happening after i put an aftermarket mani on

    Basically the car will idle fine for a while and then it starts to splutter and will eventually cease and die

    Out on the road it sometimes splutters pulling away and coming down the gears sometimes it will just cut out

    Cars currently on 72k and is due a service (Spanner is on)

    Car has full service history and i really have no idea what the cause is

    Any help would be awesome

    Sounds like it's misfiring.

    Cleaning the MAP sensor up and the throttle body (and all its sensors) with carb cleaner would be a good start. Try swapping coil packs with someone too.

    sounds like a good place to start, thinking a service wouldn't go a miss either lol

    ive had this problem. Mine was solved by the air flow motor (forgot the name of it) in the inlet mani

    I don't think the map sensor is on the throttle body?
    On the throttle body you have:
    ICV
    That temperature monitor thingy HA!
    That thing that opens the throttle for idle.

    Wish I was good on techy terms.

    Advice I can give you.
    Get an alan key set, disconnect all the sensors from your throttle body.
    Take the throttle body off.
    Clean it out with carb cleaner, it's worth taking out the ICV and cleaning that too.

    Put it back on, always makes a big difference for me.

    mine does exactly the same when it´s cold,but after it gets a bit hot it´s fine,but cold starts are nighmares,today it dies in the middle of the intersection,if you find out what is the cause,please let me know

    MAP is on the left side of the intake manifold...

    Well I went to halfords and they didn't have carb cleaner....FAIL as usual tbh

    gave them a wipe down with a rag, nothing

    even tried redex, made the car run sweet until I came up too a roundabout and it cut out

    really have no clue like

    could the spark plugs be nackered?

    MAP sensor is on the left hand side of the inlet mani mate. Small black box (with a loom plug leading to it) with a small socket cap bolt holding it on.

    Remove the bolt, pull the sensor out and give it a good clean up. Stripping the throttle body and all of its sensors down for a clean (as Aly has suggested) wouldn't do any harm either.

    Yeah i found the MAP, figured it was that one

    As said i gave it a clean and the others and nothing

    Will try and take it apart this weekend

    mines doing the same thing i'm planning to switch coil packs with my mate at the weekend and check out the spark plugs too i'll let you know how it goes, mine all started when i took my downpipe off to see how my turbo dowpipe would fit, after i put the original downpipe back on it started doing the same thing that your describing :/ my thoughts are that maybe the cars running on 3 cylinders because there is a lack in power also.

    But i dont see why taking the shitty cast iron lump off and fitting a nice light breathing aftermarket mani would cause such an odd effect?

    it may just be a coninsidence mate, im pretty sure it must be spark plugs and both our cars are just due a service lol

    Where is the Lambda probe on your Mani? If all you've done is change the Manifold then chances are there's something been knocked with the Lambda and it's giving false readings.

    It's at the bottom, changed the lambda yesterday, still the same mate

    Ah right, fair do's then.

    Before you go spending any more money on sensors could you try and get it linked up to an OBD logger? If something's reading wrong then that'll show up.

    Obviously a garage would have one, but what sort of price am I looking at for getting that done?

    Change the less expensive things first like the spark plugs or even check that they are all working its idleing like that because its not running on 4 cylinders, Easy way to find out which one it is, start the engine from COLD get a wet rag or spit on ur finger and touch each of the inlet manifold pipes noting which one isnt getting hot, this will indicate which cyclinder has the problem.

    Take the plugs out lye the coil pack on its side with the plugs in and make sure they are all sparking while touching the rocket cover.

    If u know someone with a compression tester while the plugs are out check that 2, they are only 10 - 15 quid to buy if u dont have a friend with one.

    Another reason it could be doing this is the injector rail might have a blockage, or like mine did the clip that goes into one of the injectors has came lose.

    I have a snap on diagnostics machine if you want to pop to cramlington & i will plug it in for you & see if there are any fault codes

    Check there aren't any leaks from between the engine and the manifold.
    Check the spark plugs and coil pack.
    Then check the sensors.

    No I haven't and I really don't intend too LOL

    there's nothing wrong with the current mani, checked it all for leaks etc nothing was found....

    Well Mark kindly came down and ran the diagnostics on my car (Fair play to you bud for the help, appreciate it greatly)

    Diag machine has thrown up that it is the lambda sensor as i had originally suspected

    Its not sending a signal to the ECU.

    Car seems to be running a little better after cleaning the connection down with WD40 but im not 100% sure that its fixed.

    not to put a downer on things but my quicky did the same thing and i spent arount £200 + trying to sort it owt and had no luk. i was told it could have been a problem with the ecu when it went to pug so i got eid of it and got the vtr. but hope you have more luk than i had finding the proble and let us no what it is if you fix it

    Does the engine stop misfiring with the lambda unplugged?

    just found one of the print outs of my pug and on there this a the fault code p0500 which is the Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction but carnt remember if i replace it befor i got rid of the pug hope it helps

    mark of you don't mind I'll pop up too yours sometime and get it checked again if that's ok mate?

    Anyone know the multimeter readings for the lambda plug on the loom?
