I bought a Piper backbox yesterday and attempted to fit it today, only to find that the section of pipe that connects the box to the centrepipe is about 75mm too short and kinked at an odd angle. It sounds stupid but just wanted to make sure; this isn't the correct box is it? Surely Piper boxes can't be THIS badly fitted??

#2i fitted mine today and its fine. you centre pipe could be to short...
-
#3It's a supersprint centrepipe, should be ok i think...still doesn't explain the weird angle it's kinked at though
-
#4So basically I'm wondering if they have sent the wrong backbox or if the supersprint centre section is too short...anyone?
-
#5the supersprint will most probably be designed to fit supersprint and standard backboxes, and not ones from competitors, go and get it welded at your local garage, its what i did to my peco, far better imo too, no exhaust paste!
-
#6It fitted with my Ashley backbox OK and the pipe at the back of that box is shaped differently...which makes me wonder if Piper sent the wrong one!
-
#7Call them and confirm that you have the corect box then
-
#9ive got a piper on standard centre section and it fits perfectly, sounds like you may have the wrong one! Give them a bell just to confirm!
-
#10Pics? Sounds like you have the wrong centre section (they changed the length of the VTS CAT in 2001) as the Piper backboxes fit onto pretty much any centre pipe.
-
#11Where did you get the piper from just out of interest?
-
#13That backbox is fine and should fit any centre pipe.
The centre pipe you have is the wrong one for your car. -
#14my piper centre section is about the same too short to run from the cat to my twin back boxes and also kinked maybe the piper decat is extra long or we have the stretch saxos
-
#18iv gt 1 on my 2002 furio and its fine
-
#19What decat pipe you using (to extend it to the manifold). Sounds like the one you have is for an earlier model with the shorter CAT.
-
#20OK I've come to the bottom of this...I have a supersprint centre pipe for 2001 models onwards. The Piper backbox I ordered is for 1996-2000 models, which explains why the small section of pipe at the back of the box is too short. I've been in contact with the guys I bought it from and they are sending me the same backbox but for 2001 models onwards. Basically I ordered the wrong one lol
-
#21my backbox is exactly the same as the 1 in the pic and it fits str8 onto my 2002 furio. iv gt a supersprint centre pipe 2
-
#22the backbox is the same from 1997-2003 saxos, the only changed are with manis and centre sections. if this backbox doesnt fit then the next one they send you wont fit either.
your cat is in your manifold isnt it? and your supersprint runs straight from the mani to the backbox? -
#23Yeah the supersprint runs from the manifold to the backbox, and the cat is in the mani...i don't see your point though because the supersrpint centrepipe is the exact same length as the standard one I had on. Also my Ashley backbox fitted perfectly to the supersprint centrepipe (it wasn't too short or too long). Also, if the backbox is the same for all years, why do most manufacturers make boxes from 1996-2000 and for 2001 onwards?Quote:the backbox is the same from 1997-2003 saxos, the only changed are with manis and centre sections. if this backbox doesnt fit then the next one they send you wont fit either.

#24i dont understand why yours doesnt fit... im confused
-
#25Got any pictures of where the centre pipe ends - i.e. where the backbox connects?
-
#28No...I sent it back because it was a backbox for 1996-2000 models, whereas I need one for 2001 onwards models. This was before people started saying that this doesn't matter and that I have the wrong centrepipe. So now I am waiting for them to send me another backbox for 2001 onwards models
-
#29you have the wrong centre pipe because i have a supersprint backbox and a piper back box and its fine. my back box is exactly the same as urs and its on my 2002 furio
-
#30We've already said mate, all Piper backboxes are the same. The variation is in the length of the centre pipe/ CAT!1 user thanked this post:
-
#31*supersprint centre pipe
-
#33i know what the problem is m8! you can adjust the length of supersprint centre pipes. the are two bolts in the middle of it, loosen them then pull it apart abit and it will fit! thats what i did with mine
