Annoying ticking noise engine bay

   This noise comes from some box next to the air box, and is where the throttle cable is attached.
   What is it and how can it be stopped?
   
   Is this to do with oil levels as I'm going to get mine serviced soon?

   i think it might be injector noise maybe?
   
   or could be the tappets maybe

   tappets are basically something that goes under the cam and between the valve spring. they are there to keep pressure on the valve and to stop the valve bending under the rotation force of the camshaft, when the cam comes round to open valve. on newer models there are hva's (hydraulic valve adjusters) so you dont have to have the "tappets" adjusted as they are hydraulicly adjusted by the oil pressure.

   Am i right in saying that its only VTS's that have HVA's ? I was under the impression that all VTR model's have tappets ?

   that would be correct
   
   VTS = HVA's
   
   VTR downover have tappets
   
   
   I payed £25 to get mine adjusted when i had my quiky

    you'd be better sorting them as you lose power cause of this and it aint a nice sound lol but in long run think it could do some damage
